Jeffrey Combs, with and without his glasses

Theresa Sweat, the aunt of Jeffrey Combs, this morning said that the family is still searching for her nephew, and denied reports that Jeffrey had been disowned by his family.

This comes after reports by some that Jeffrey had been located and was safe, and after a call over the weekend to Dallas Voice from a man who said he had been in contact with Jeffrey within the last week, and that Jeffrey was safe and staying with a friend. The address of the friend with whom Jeffrey was said to be staying has been shared with police in both Dallas and Richardson; representatives of both police departments on Monday indicated to Dallas Voice that they had not at that time had any contact with Jeffrey.

But Officer Amber Roman, LGBT liaison for the Dallas police, explained that because Jeffrey is an adult, it is his choice whether he will contact his family. “We can tell him his family is very worried and that they are looking for him, but it’s up to him whether he gets in contact with them,” she said.

In a text to Dallas Voice at about 7:40 a.m. today (Tuesday, June 5), Sweat said she and Jeffrey’s mother, Joanna Combs, “have been all over Dallas, handing out flyers, talking to everyone we see. Some say they have seen him but that is as far as it gets.”

She also denied rumors that the family had disowned Jeffrey for being gay.

“I … can tell you we loved Jeffrey. We know he is gay, but the love he has from his family is [indescribable],” Sweat wrote. “He said to me that his mom is his best friend. As his aunt, I love him as if he were my own. If you have heard any stories of his family disowning him, they are all lies.!”

Anyone with information regarding Jeffrey Combs can call the Richardson Police Department, Det. Pagel, at 972-744-4800.
