Instant Tea called it transphobic, but some commenters disagreed. Either way, the ad has been pulled. From All Things Digital:
By mid-afternoon on Tuesday, the groups backing the ad had begun receiving complaints and a Sprint representative confirmed to Mobilized that the ads are being pulled.
“We believe the proposed transaction is really bad for consumers, the industry and the country,” a Sprint representative said. “We supported these efforts to get that message out broadly to consumers. We certainly apologize the material offended anyone. That was not our intent.”
Ok look… I’m not transgendered but I am a truly clinically diagnosed intersexed individual who has reassigned her gender to female sorta in a fashion like transsexuals do. I can take a joke, gimmick, etc. If you really want to call this ad “transphobia” I have to say, GROW A NUT. Pun intended.
Mikayla, you start off by saying you are not transgendered (which should read transgender — no “ed” on the end) and that is tantamount to an anglo person claiming there is no such thing as racial oppression. I am trans and I find the ad both offensive and humerous. I can poke fun of myself, I do NOT grant that to others unless they are my intimates. T-Mobile is definately not my intimate — and this isn’t there first ad produced at the expense of transgender people! They have a history and because of that they should be more sensitive.
Nuff said.
