Spa Weekend
Probably the closest thing to a queer film out of this week’s bunch. Four lifelong friends realize that somewhere between careers, relationships, families and everyday responsibilities, they have forgotten how to take care of themselves and each other. Burned out and overdue for a break, the women escape to a luxury spa retreat for what turns out to be an unforgettable weekend dedicated to fun, laughter and bad decisions.
In theaters Aug. 21.
Hellbilly Hollow
A team of paranormal YouTubers ventures deep into the Alabama backwoods to film at a haunted attraction the night before Halloween. There they encounter Tickles, a disfigured, childlike clown and his caretaker brother, Bull who prove to be a (shocker!) sinister presence far more frightening—and deadlier—than the usual staged scares. One by one, the investigators, together with local thrillseekers, fall victim to the siblings’ sadistic games.
In select theaters Sept. 25.
Your Mother Your Mother Your Mother
The official trailer for this Mahershala Ali vehicle has been released. Ali stars as Latif, a devoutly religious hitman who struggles to balance work, faith and fatherhood. When his wife dies, he embarks on a desperate journey across Houston to protect his children, confronting the forces closing in around him – and the beliefs threatening to unravel within.
In select theaters Sept. 25 and everywhere in October.
Misty Green
In this film directed by Chris Rock, a talented actress fights for her second act years after her breakthrough and a stalled career with public missteps. Not starring Lindsay Lohan, but starring Rosalind Eleazar, Adam Driver, Daniel Kaluuya, Anna Kendrick, Topher Grace and Chris Rock.
In theaters this October.
Jumanji: Open World
Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan are reunited in the final installment of the action-adventure trilogy. They have escaped the perilous jungles from inside the Jumanji game before, but this time Jumanji breaks free of its console, unleashing its chaos into our world.
In theaters Christmas Day.
The Thomas Crown Affair
Academy Award-winner Michael B. Jordan directs, produces and stars in this new take on the classic heist thriller where the most dangerous man in the room is the one nobody’s watching. Also starring Kenneth Branagh, Adria Arjona, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurria and Pilou Asbæk.
In theaters March 5.
