Last year, Tom Sime — the gay former theater critic for the Dallas Morning News and managing director of Contemporary Theatre of Dallas —  packed up his belongings and headed for New York City. Sime followed a kind of reverse bohemian arc of getting older and then living the life of the starving artist, by mounting his original plays in the City That Never Sleeps.
We don’t know how well he’s eating, but the tide is high for him right now, we’re betting: Deborah Harry, she of Blondie fame, is starring in a weekly reading of his new play “Nancy and Nicole” at the Bleecker Street Theatre in the East Village, where Sime is writer-in-residence. The play will be performed Mondays from Feb. 9 to March 30.

  1. Howdy. We did Nancy and Nicole last night and it went wonderfully well. Deborah was enchanting in the role, the rest of the cast was also superb, and the audience laughed its collective head off. They also seemed caught up in the suspenseful arc of the story as well as the comedy. Lots of great feedback.
BUT it was a one-night thing. The play series continues on Mondays through March 30, but Nancy and Nicole will only be performed once. The other nights are my other plays; see the full schedule at http://www.themodernstage.com.
I do hope to actually produce N&N here, of course, and with Debbie if possible. She is interested but about to dive back into Blondie-world for another album and tour. We’ll see if we can work things out.
