Dallas has three days left to comply with Gov. Greg Abbott’s order to get rid of crosswalks with a political ideology that are distracting to drivers.
While Houston and Galveston bowed down to the governor and removed theirs immediately, Austin is asking for an exemption and Dallas is seeking legal advice. The initial rant from the governor gave cities until Nov. 8 to comply.
But the order is flawed because it cites safety concerns. All studies show rainbow crosswalks are actually safer probably because the bright colors draw a driver’s eyes to the them and any pedestrians in them. On Cedar Springs Road, there were at least 10 accidents, some of them fatal, in the 20-teens. Since rainbow crosswalks have been installed, there have been no accidents involving pedestrians at the crosswalks.
Also in jeopardy are “All Black Lives Matter” crosswalks in South Dallas. Apparently, the governor doesn’t believe that all black lives matter and would rather South Dallas have more dangerous plain white lines.

If you don’t fight you lose by default. Losing by default is how people who are guilty of something behave. We fight because we are right.
