Theatre 3 has announced its 2018–19 season, its 57th, with eight mainstage productions, including several premieres by locals.
The season will begin in August with a double feature (Aug. 2–26) of two one-acts sealing with sex and gender. Heinsenberg deals with how a random kiss on a London tube station triggers unexpected consequences. Actually delves into the murky area of sexual ethics when two freshmen meet, get drunk and fall for each other. But how far does it go?
Once, the Tony Award-winning musical based on the hit Irish movie, makes its local-production debut. (Sept. 13–Oct. 7). That’s followed by The Moors (Oct. 25–Nov. 18), a dark comedy set in a remote English manor. The year closes with Solstice: A New Holiday Adventure (Dec. 1–30), a new Dallas-centric play from out playwright Jonathan Norton.
2019 will kick off with The Manufactured Myth of Eveline Flynn (Jan. 31–Feb. 24), a world premiere musical my Michael Federico and Ian Ferguson (On the Eve), featuring ABBA-esque songs. A stage play-with-music version of the TV movie Foxfire (March 13–April 7), about an elderly woman’s relationship with her dead husband’s ghost, follows.
Matt Lyle, pictured, who last year debuted his hilarious gay-themed play Cedar Springs at T3, returns with another Texas-set play, a new commission co-written with Matt Coleman called Raptured: A Sex Farce at the end of the World (April 25–May 19), where congregants at the Third baptist Church of Uncertain, Texas, plan for end times. The season concludes with The Armor Plays: Cinched and Strapped (June 6–30), two one-acts by Selina Filinger.
The Texas Ballet Theater has also announced its upcoming lineup, which will, as usually, include performances both in Dallas and Fort Worth for several shows.
The season opens with Cinderella (Aug 24–26), followed by Cleopatra (Sept. 28–30). The holiday favorite The Nutcracker will run Nov. 23–Dec. 24, with one performance of the campy The Nutty Nutcracker added for fun. In 2019, TBT will present two mixed repertoires, the first March 1–3, the second March 29–31. The season ends with Pinocchio (May 17–26).
