Mayor-elect Jane Castor (via campaign website)

The year of the lesbian mayor continued last night as Jane Castor was elected mayor of Tampa by a 46-point margin in a two-way race. That follows Lori Lightfoot’s April 2 win to become mayor of Chicago and Satya Rhodes-Conway’s win in Madison, Wisc.

Castor had been with the Tampa Police Department for the past 30 years and was the city’s chief of police for the last six.

She becomes the first LGBT mayor of a large city in the southeast.

In upcoming elections, Jolie Justus is running for mayor of Kansas City. That election will be held on June 25.

In the current Dallas elections, no lesbians are among the nine candidates for mayor. But candidates in five races are gay or lesbian, and four of them have been endorsed by the LGBT Victory Fund. If Erin Moore is elected in District 9, she would become the first out lesbian elected to the Dallas City Council.

Early voting in Dallas is underway.
