Patrik-Ian Polk knows something about getting his way. He made the first gay black comedy (Punks) and the first gay black Sex and the City rip-off (Noah’s Arc), so getting his new indie film The Skinny — dealing, you guessed it, with black gay characters — meant nothing more than renting a screening room at Landmark’s Magnolia Theatre for a one-week engagement. The plot sounds Big Chill-esque, as five gay college pals reunite for a weekend in NYC, and secrets are revealed.
Through April 26 at the Magnolia.

Whoever wrote this article is clearly a hater of some sort. The tone is so negative towards Patrik-Ian Polk and his past works. The Skinny is a great movie!! Such an article should try to encourage people to go see the movie. Who cares if the cast is all Black? There are so many gay shows where the the entire cast is White, including QAF, but I guess that doesn’t matter. We all know that people go ape shit for QAF,. I don’t fault Mr. Polk for having all Black casts. Black people are usually either misrepresented or simply not present in gay cinema, therefore I applaud Mr. Polk for his portrayal of the Black gay community. Also, Noah’s Arc isn’t a rip-off of Sex and the City (which has an all white cast, by the way), Noah’s Arc deals with many real life issues. Sex and the City is about a group of White, rich women living in Manhattan and their relationship ups and downs. Noah’s Arc deals with many things issues, including HIV/AIDS in the Black and Hispanic communities, so for me, it doesn’t compare to Sex and the City.
