The Dallas Eagle opened at 4 p.m. today in its new location after successfully completing a change of address on the bar’s liquor license, according to one of the Eagle’s co-owners.
Carolyn Beck, a spokeswoman for the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Commission, confirmed that the Eagle has been cleared to open in its new location, at 5740 Maple Ave. Beck said her boss, TABC Administrator Alan Steen, personally delivered the required documentation to the owners of the Eagle earlier today.
The Eagle’s new location, which has been five years in the making, was shut down in the midst of a grand opening two weeks ago after TABC and the Dallas Police Department discovered that the bar’s owners hadn’t completed a change of address on the license. The owners of the Eagle blamed a private company they’d hired to expedite their application for the change of address. They said the company told them they were free to open the new bar.
UPDATE: As Jay notes below, it’s true that the owners of the Eagle do not yet have a dance hall license from the city of Dallas for the new bar. This means they can’t allow dancing until they receive one. They didn’t have a dance hall permit for the old bar either. However, unlike the old bar the new one has a dance floor.
hells yah, now i can get my Bear on. I’m going for a Grizzly Bear tonight and im hoping to get mangled in a good way, yah hear me?!
Dallas vice (214-671-3248) says ya’ll still don’t have a dance license. Are you going to allow dancing anyway? If you do, waht will the police do? Close it down again?
Only in this half ass state would you need a license to dance. Maybe they should concentrate more on who they give drivers licenses to, because we all know the drivers SUCK.
Wish someone would clarify. Dancing is illegal without a license ? What else is illegal without a license in Dallas ? Singing ? Reciting poetry ? Public displays of affection ? Oil painting in publlic ? Playing the mandolin in public ?
I am still missing how Dallas has a claim to fame for anything other than backwardness and self – hate.
@Jay Jackson – The dance floor is NOT open, I was there last night. The bar is working with the city to get the dance hall permit issued within the next week. Why don’t you quit looking for the negative in this and just be happy that they are open now????
@Chip, I also was there. I WAS NOT looking for the negative. I was merely wanting to avoid trouble for myself and the bar with the police, not knowing if they were going to show up again. Perhaps I could have phrased it better, but I was in a hurry at the time as I was late for my split shift at work. I am very well aware of the time and money it took to get this new location open and look forward to many years of enjoyment at the new location.
Wooo Hooooo… and now people in the area can go out to the free MEETUP group at https://www.meetup.com/DallasEagle where they can stay in touch with what’s going on.
It’s sure been a long five years but in the end I think it’s all going to be worth the effort!!! Wooo Hoooo…..
