Texas Tech University hosted what’s being called the campus’ first-ever drag show on Wednesday. And based on the language used in an article about the show in the student newspaper, the awareness the event intended to raise is very much needed. The Daily Toreador reports that the show was designed to “educate and entertain the community about homosexuality.” Sounds like a science class! The article goes on to say that the show included a speaker from PFLAG who talked “about the hardships of homosexuality in Lubbock.” The obvious humor of this statement aside, it makes it sound like there’s a shortage of lube in West Texas. After all, though, I guess we should just be thankful the show wasn’t canceled due to threats from the religious right.
Not much information here. I never understood what drag had to do with being gay. I went to Tech. It’s pretty conservative, but I didn’t have much problem being gay there.
They were much nicer than the Dallas Morning News would have been.
