El Come Taco
Last summer, Downtown Dallas sizzled on a warm summer afternoon with the first-ever Taco Libre, a celebration of the definitive Mexican street food with about a dozen taquerias from across North Texas showing off their skills with the simple flavor bomb of a taco. This year’s incarnation of Taco Libre — once again curated by our friend (and occasional contributor), the undisputed guru of tacos Jose R. Ralat, gets improved in several ways. First, it’s taking place on April 30, so maybe it won’t be quite so hot out. Second, it expands substantially, rising to nearly two dozen participating taquerias — including Tacodeli and Trompo (both reviewed this week) as well as some of my other personal favorites: El Come Taco (pictured from last year), El Tizoncito, Taco Stop and Urban Taco. There will also be live music and an appearance by luchador Blue Demon Jr. “We’ve added vendors from outside the DFW area, including Austin’s Valentina’s Tex-Mex BBQ and El Paso’s Tacoholics,” Ralat says. “I couldn’t be more excited.”
