Ms. Hicks is the Fort Worth City Councilmember who represents the district in which the Rainbow Lounge is located. She is also Fort Worth’s mayor pro-tem. I just found her statement regarding the raid on the Rainbow Lounge online at North Texas e-News.
“I want every resident of Fort Worth to have the confidence of knowing that when tough issues such as this arise, we will require a full accounting of actions and demand honest and complete answers. Rest assured that neither the people of Fort Worth, nor the city government of Fort Worth, will tolerate discrimination against any of its citizens.
“It is truly ironic and unfortunate that this incident occurred on the 40th anniversary of the Stonewall protests. Unlike 40 years ago, though, the people of this community have elective representation that will make sure our government is accountable and that the rights of all of its citizens are protected.

Both Ms. Hick’s and Mr. Burn’s statements contain the sentence “Unlike 40 years ago, though, the people of this community have elective representation that will make sure our government is accountable and that the rights of all of its citizens are protected.” What are the odds of that? Can’t two people involved say their own thoughts or write their own releases?
It is just like 40 years ago Ms. Hicks! We still have no right!!! You have yours…where are ours???
What irony? Perversion of power in this case is hardly ironic.
Ms. Hicks, My sister in law Casey was one of the seven arrested (and the ONLY WOMAN arrested) and held in the jail for 10 HOURS. Her rights were never read, and no breathalizer performed. One of her best friends Chad is in intensive care. I too am a lesbian and have been with Casey’s sister for almost 7 years, we have a 3 year old son. Our family will NOT stand by and allow this behaviour to go unpunished! You must stand strong and insure that justice is served. I lived in Los Angeles for the Rodney King riots. Rouge Police behaviour and brutality towards ANYONE is UNACCEPTABLE!! TABC must also be included in this catagory. Harrassment in the name of SAFETY is ridiculous! Thank you in advance for your support and we pray you will do the right thing!
Words are great, Ms. Hicks. I would like to see some accountability now, some real justice. This should not have happened in the first place, now it’s time to fix it with more than words and apologies.
mr burns and ms hicks,
just like 40 years ago, we cannot marry. just like 40 years ago, we are harrassed by biggots. just like 40 years ago, we can lose our jobs just for being who we are. just like 40 years ago, we can be thrown out fo a military career or not allowed to enter in to one just for being honest about who we are. just like 40 years ago, police and state agents raid our bars in an effort to intimitdate and bully.
so, what has changed in 40 years? please explain, i and my community are literally dying to know.
still waiting on that explanation….that one, and a lot more……
