The father of Omar Mateen, the man identified as the shooter who killed at least 20 people inside the Orlando gay nightclub Pulse early Sunday morning, June 12, has told reporters that the attack was not tied to religion. He said, however, that his son had gotten very angry when he saw two gay men kissing in downtown Miami recently, and the shooting may have stemmed from that.
“We are apologizing for the whole incident,” Mateen’s father said. “We are in shock like the rest of the country.”
