Dallas County Sheriff Lupe Valdez is sore but not seriously injured after a car wreck tonight in Austin, according to spokeswoman Kim Leach.
Leach said the sheriff refused to go to the hospital after a taxi she was riding in was struck by another vehicle. Valdez’s airbag deployed and hit her in the chest, leaving her in “a lot of pain,” Leach said. Also suffering minor injuries in the crash was Chief Deputy Gary Lindsey.
“They’re both OK,” Leach said. “They’re just going to rest at the hotel.”
Valdez and Lindsey are in Austin for a Texas Commission on Jail Standards meeting.
