Daniel Williams at Legislative Queery reports that the Texas Senate has again adjourned for the day without taking up a bill that would bar transgender people from marrying people of the opposite sex. However, The Woodlands Republican Tommy Williams’ SB 723 remains on the Senate’s calendar for Thursday. The bill, a response to the Nikki Araguz case, would remove a court order of sex change from the list of documents that can be used to obtain marriage licenses in Texas.
Daniel Williams also notes that today, the right-wing, Plano-based Liberty Institute issued an action alert calling on people to urge senators to support the anti-LGBT bill. Here’s an excerpt:
Some Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender advocates, want to thwart a Texas appeals court decision and force the state to recognize their gender (for marriage purposes) as something other than what was assigned at birth, to change their gender later on in life and force county clerks to recognize the changed gender. Such an outcome will create confusion for county clerks, for the courts and no doubt will be used by the GLBT community to undermine our marriage laws, which affirm traditional marriage, between one man and one woman.
Protect traditional marriage, support SB 723.
If you haven’t already contacted your senator and asked them to oppose this bill, this disgusting action alert from the Liberty Institute should provide plenty of motivation to do so. Email your senator by going here.
Doesn’t this Tommy Williams guy look like someone who would be wearing women’s panties?
Texas, where Men are Men, Even If they’re Women!
I love this. If this goes through, post op transsexuals will ONLY be allowed to marry someone of the same sex!
Every other state sees someone like Nikki Araguz (who looks like a completely normal woman including the vagina) as a woman. Most will only let her marry a man, but not Texas, in Texas she will only be allowed to marry another woman! How crazy is it that they are creating a Gay Marriage loop hole in the name of protecting Traditional Marriage. Find out more about this little blunder: https://transpedianews.com/?p=538
(sorry if this posted twice, the web site is acting a little weird) Texas, where Men are Men, Even If they’re Women!

Ignorance and prejudice are both learned. Stupidity is brought on by being unwilling to understand others and their needs. Tommy Williams has the sickness of all three and is proud of it. If he wants to cite the difficulties of court workers, then he ought to consider how many heterosexuals go through transitions in their lives (divorce, reversions to former names, etc). Such arguments as he proposes as “reason” show how sad it is that some politicians will stoop to create difficulties for others who do not agree with him. I’m sad to see he comes from Texas, much less the USA itself. Get a life, Tommy!!! You have people about you whose lives you don’t even know but who influence your life far more than you could ever acknowledge. Get a faith, while you’re at it. God is far bigger than your little mind can conceive.
Well, I don’t feel making a comment like what you mentioned is adult like no matter how much it could be true.
On the topic at hand though, I have to say that it is a crying shame that people in this age still want to believe that being “trans” is a decision. In that “I woke up today and decided I want to be a girl/boy.” Science has proven it time and time again that being trans/intersexed is caused at birth during a process called “hormonal washing of the brain”. It truly is a genetic condition. But yet they want to think its a “choice” ? Get real world, grow a nut and deal with it. I don’t care whether your transgendered or intersexed, if someone wants to transition from one gender to another – it’s their prerogative. DEAL WITH IT.
I can say my transition was uneventful. I never had a nasty look, stare, comment and I live in Tarrant County with a bunch of rednecks. I will add “passability” I feel has a lot to do with whether or not TG/TS/IS people are harassed. Is it a shame it happens? You bet. But it is a fact 🙁
Love to all my MTF AND FTM brothers and sisters. BE SAFE OUT THERE!
HUGZ, Mika
@Mikayla: Well, I suppose my comment was not very “adult like” as you say but I must admit that my “gaydar” went off big time when I saw his photo. I’m sorry but the guy looks like a closeted gay man.
I could be wrong and I have no evidence to prove it other than a gut feeling, which is usually right. Those sorts of people with so much self hatred and shame tend to be the most homophobic people on earth.
Now THIS is what worries me. I’m 11 years post-op (in Sep) and went through all the court hurdles in my birth state. I even had the proceedings sealed. But over the years I lost a lot of respect for the law and found that the law is not what I was taught it was, but instead that it depends on the people in the courtroom, especially the one in robes. Prejudice, ignorance, hatred, bigotry all trump logic and concern for fellow humans in the courtrrom. All my documents are correct, but what happens if some jerk wants to fight it? The court cases are full of judges who ruled based on their twisted view of their religion or their prejudice rather than on logic and the law., One of the many reasons I live stealth.
Mika (also the nickname my daughter uses ), I echo your advice — be safe!
