TxDOT denied a request from San Antonio to keep its rainbow crosswalks. The city has been ordered to complete removal by January 15.
Dallas submitted a similar request to the state but hasn’t received a similar order yet.
The original October 8 order from Gov. Greg Abbott was to remove all surface markings that “do not directly support traffic control or safety.” During the decade prior to rainbow crosswalks being installed along Cedar Springs Road, at least 10 accidents involving pedestrians occurred along the street. Since installation, there have been none.
Dallas is expecting a similar ruling to the one given to San Antonio soon.
