Best DJ: Al Farb

When it comes to sick beats, Al Farb is the chosen one. This local DJ has been bringing the sounds to the dance floor, but he’s also stepped into another realm of DJing.

Farb has played Station 4, Pride in Dallas and the Halloween Block Party, where he’s been spreading his groovy gospel to the pleasure of club music fans.

Along with his dancefloor duties, Farb also serves music of a different kind on New Country 96.3 FM, where he is an on-air host and music director on weekdays from 3-7 p.m.

Now, who doesn’t love a versatile music talent?

Cody Dry

Theater fans will know the name Cody Dry. He is a prolific music director who seems to be everywhere all at once. He’s put his talents to use at Theatre Three, Uptown Players, Dallas Theater Center, Stage West, WaterTower Theatre and Circle Theater.

Then he has a different audience on Sunday mornings as the music director at Oak Lawn United Methodist Church.

Dry is also an educator and vocal coach and currently on faculty at UT Arlington. And as if that weren’t enough, he has also served at Greenhill.

But what he does with theater is something else altogether.

Theatergoers may see the action up front with a cast of characters, but Dry adds a whole other level with his music direction. His lead punctuates a show’s comedy or drama which levels up the production altogether for a fuller experience.

Best Dancer: Jesse Portillo at TMC

“Blessed and highly favored.”

That’s how Jesse Portillo describes himself in his bio on his Instagram profile, @JessePMV. And one look at his photos or one look at him practicing his art as a dancer at TMC is enough to convince us he is absolutely right. Head on over to TMC, 3903 Cedar Springs Road, to see for yourself. They’re open daily, 2 p.m.-2 a.m.; there’s never a cover, and everyone 21-and-up is welcome.
