Earlier this month, the nominees were announced for the 11th AnnualĀ  Independent Music Awards and a few queer artists were among the 300-plus artists and bands nominated. The awards celebrate self-published musicians and independent labels. The winners will be determined by an esteemed panel of judges that includes Keith Richards, Tom Waits, Suzanne Vega, Tori Amos, Shelby Lynne and Ozzy Osbourne among the mix and will be announced in April.

Singer-songwriter Melissa Ferrick made the cut with two nominations. Her Still Right Here release from 2011 was nominated for best folk/singer-songwriter album and best acoustic song for “Singing in the Wind.”

Seems like it’s been a while since we’ve heard from Antigone Rising, but the all-female band scored a nom for “Everywhere is Home” in the adult contemporary song category from its quietly released 2011 album 23 Red.

San Antonio band Girl in a Coma scored double noms in the indie/alt-rock categories for the song “Adjust” and album Exits & All the Rest.

And RuPaul earned a nomination for best social action song for “Get Your Rebel On” from last year’s Glamazon album. That was one of the nicer surprises among this year’s list.
