When it comes to the former player’s lawsuit against SMU and head women’s basketball coach Rhonda Rompola, there are more questions than answers at this point. Given that, I feel I showed some Joe Biden-like restraint last week in not raising many of those questions, simply because it’s pure speculation. (Also, I didn’t want to get sued!) However, I did want to share one of the many interesting things I came across during my research, which was this feature story from The Dallas Morning News about Rompola’s long-distance relationship with her husband, UNC-Greenville men’s basketball coach Mike Dement. Note that in the story, Dement twice refers to Rompola as a “friend.” Am I reading too much into this, or in retrospect does the story sound almost tongue-in-cheek?

Well, spouses should be best friends, I think. So in that respect, there’s nothing odd about it.
