Rob Schlein, president of Log Cabin Republicans Dallas, clearly doesn’t put a lot of stock in natural disasters.
In an op-ed for Dallas Voice last week, Schlein downplayed the threat of a federal marriage amendment, saying it is “as exaggerated as the the reported threat of Hurricane Irene.”
Then on Monday, after Texas Gov. Rick Perry skipped a presidential forum in South Carolina so he could return to Texas to deal with the wildfires, Schlein took to Facebook to question the governor’s motives.
“So is Rick Perry afraid of debating?” Schlein wrote. “Seems he’s discovered that the fires need his attention. Why is this a sudden priority just a few days before your debut on TV?”
In addition to Monday’s forum, Schlein was referring to Wednesday’s GOP presidential debate in California, for which Perry now says he’s undecided.
For once I am glad for a decision made by Rick Perry. He, as governor, needs to be here in Texas. It is a pretty courageous move to skip the debate. However, Perry is clever like a fox and it may allow him to take the high ground and not have to answer any questions. Perry or his handlers know that the more you know about him, the less you like him. I guess it remains to be seen if it’s a cynical political move, but on the surface it would seem to be the right one. As for Rob, well I guess he knows cynical moves pretty well.
I guess w/ Perry’s track record of not attending debates, I can see were Rob is coming from. I question also his timing since North Tx was already in flames prior to central tx. I’m just glad he’s finally earning his taxpayer paycheck. Now the wait for him to plead w/ the President for more money and resources.
I thought the exact same thing as Schlein did last night when I heard Fox 4 say Perry was skipping the debate to get back to Texas. While it’s a nice gesture to come back and check on Texas, I’m sure there was a sigh of relief from him when he figured out he could use the wild fires as an excuse to get out of a debate. I just don’t trust this man …I even think his day of prayer was a political stunt to get free nationwide publicity for his Presidential bid. It wouldn’t shock me one bit if Perry was out there starting those fires so he could use them as an excuse.
Schlein questions the motives of Rick Perry and that makes him a person that doesn’t put stock in natural disasters? It is clear that Perry is trying to avoid the debate and Schlein is right to call him out on it.
Ron Paul 2012 baby!!!!!
Freedom and Liberty are roaring stronger than any TX fire or hurricane!
It’s our movement to shine and crush Tyranny right dead in its tracks!
Destroy the NWO!!!! We take no more of your Matrix exposed and conditioned system upon us.
Well, obviously Perry is avoiding the debates. He’s not a good public speaker, in my opinion…much less a good governor! If you recall just a year ago he would not debate Bill White or KBH for the governor’s office. He’s afraid of being accountable for the high unemployment rate, cutting teachers, and the state deficit. Apparently he feels if he doesn’t show up, he doesn’t have to answer for undesirable numbers on his record.
“Why is this a sudden priority just a few days before your debut on TV?”
I don’t know, maybe because 18,468 acres of Texas are on fire, hundreds of people have lost their homes, and thousands have been displaced! Don’t get me wrong, I don’t like Rick Perry at all. But I would really hate him if he decided to blow us off and go to California while his state is in dire need.
Oh wait, I was wrong. 166,475 acres of Texas are on fire.
