The new Resource Center Health building at 2603 Inwood Road is open for business. The building consolidates healthcare services into one fully integrated building.

The new building houses the food pantry and the hot meals program on the first floor. Upstairs are 12 exam rooms for medical services. Those services include everything from getting an HIV test and PrEP care to primary healthcare for those with HIV and those without. Lab services are on-premises as well as insurance assistance. A pharmacy will open in October.

Mental healthcare remains at the community center on Cedar Springs Road, but for convenience, some counseling will be done at the new health building.

Resource Center CEO Cece Cox said tele-health services allows the organization to provide PrEP and some other medical services to people across the state, especially in areas with limited healthcare options.

According to Resource Center, many LGBTQ+ people delay or avoid care because of previous mistreatment by a medical professional. And 29 percent of transgender people report being turned away by a healthcare provider.

Plenty of parking is available. Enter the lot in the back of the building off Sadler Circle. Or take DART’s Green or Yellow Line to Inwood Station. Resource Center Health is directly across the street.

Earlier this month, Dr. Douglas Hardy was named chief medical officer. He said all these services in one place puts Resource Center Health at the forefront of medical care.

For those on PrEP, Hardy said, he hopes Gilead comes out with an assistance program for its new and highly successful injectable that is taken just twice a year. Until the new preventive is made affordable, he said he has several good options.
