Members of LULAC 4871- Dallas Rainbow Council have re-elected Juan Contreras to a second term as president, along with a full slate of officers for 2015.
They will be sworn in at an Officer Installation Ceremony and City Council Meet-and-Greet at 7 p.m. Thursday, April 16, at Havana Bar and Grill, 4006 Cedar Springs Road.
Contreras has been a LULAC member since 2012 and has held leadership posts with the Hispanic/Latino Organization for Leadership and Advancementm (HOLA), and with Texas Latino Gay Pride. He said he is “grateful” to have been re-elected as president of the first “LGBTQ and ally council” approved by national LULAC. The Rainbow Council, approved in 2005, celebrates its 10th anniversary this year.
Also elected to the Rainbow Council board are Vice President Alex Trevino, Secretary Zhyla Alvarado, Treasurer Domingo Perez, Historian Elias Cantu; Sergeant-at-arms Chelle Simmons and Parliamentarian Jesse Tafalla Jr.
LULAC Dallas Rainbow Council is an all-volunteer community action group that works on service projects, raises funds for scholarships and helps provide resources to the Hispanic/Latino and LGBTQ communities.
