The word is out that our favorite former sometimes-Dallasite George Michael is working on an album collaborating with a specific group of musicians. NME reported that “The singer, who is due to tour the UK in the winter with a 41 piece symphonic orchestra, had previously revealed that his next studio album would be made with a collective of gay artists, in an effort to ‘correct the damage’ his recent behavior had caused in ‘letting young gay kids down.'”
Now I’m a fan of Michael, but you know, I was let down too by his behavior and I KNOW his music. Our 19 year-old intern didn’t know much about Michael post-Faith. Come on, George. Us older fans want some of your attention, too.
ANYWAY, with his new vow to work with “either gay or gay friendly artists – possibly unknown ones,” I wondered who would be a good match. Minus bigger queer stars, I went from mid-range down:
- Uh Huh Her — Sort of like the Pet Shop Boys of the lesbian crowd, this duo has cool pop chops and bring their own brand of sexy to match Michael’s. Vocally, he’d probably own them, but altogether, I’d predict a hit.
- Big Freedia — I’m not sure if Michael could handle Freedia’s big booty bounce, but it would be fun to see him try to keep up. Michael may be the veteran, but Freedia would shine more.
- Adam Lambert — This might be an easy call, but I think these two could be phenomenal together. There are enough similarities and differences and each would boost each other to different levels. Lambert’s big but still not huge so I think he’d fit in fine.
- Diamond Rings — I think Michael could win with Diamond Rings writing his songs. It would bring him to an edgier level. Michael could use that without going overboard and Diamond Rings would know how to do that.
- Sia — As much as I’d want to say yes to this, I think any collab between them would be a little odd. He’s too polished, she’s too eclectic, but vocally, they could be nice together.
That’s just what I think. Who would you pick?
Saw him in concert in Dallas awhile back at AAC. Love him, loved/love his music and loved his concert!!
Meant, so “can’t” wait for new album………they don’t let you delete posts on here.
I can’t see him working with any of those.
Michael wants to record with people who will be able to tour with him to perform the songs so he won’t be wanting to record with people who will be busy on their own tours and have their own albums to promote. Pretty much rules out some of those, particularly Lambert.
AAARRRRGGGHHHHHHHHH!!! WHY must you a-holes need to have everything spelled OUT for you? Sheesh! Adam Lambert is WAY too good AND big to be in concert with George! Period.
Funny you mention “Uh Huh Her” because vocalist and keyboard player for that group, Camilla Grey, was Lambert’s keyboardist for his 2010 Glam Nation Tour INTERNATIONALLY.
Michaels WAS a good singer. Lambert is DA BOMB! A freaky vocal phenom! The FUTURE. He’s a MEGA-TALENT who also just happens to be openly gay. From the BEGINNING of his career.
And before you dismiss me as some little piss-ant who doesn’t know better, I also liked George when he was with WHAM!
What do you mean by Lambert is “big but still not huge”? Tell that to his fans not only in the USA but Singapore, Hong Kong, the Philippines, Japan, Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, Russia , the UK, Finland, Sweden, Switzerland, Denmark, Vienna, Italy, France, etc.. OK? He has a once-in-a few-generation voices and is already TOO BIG to just throw his name in here like it’s a pot of soup.Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen see him as Freddie’s logical “heir”, vocally. MANY musicians and critics agree.
You mention Freedia possibly shining more… not only would Lambert be SHINIER than Michaels, but he would out-sing and outshine him to the point that poor George would just look (and sound) pathetic.
So please..before you just make a potpourri of “gay” artists to pair other gay artists with…think again.
Damn, I’m surprised you left out Ricky Martin and Elton John.
And Sia has co-written some songs for Lambert’s highly anticipated second album. Just remember, Adam Lambert was in musical theater since age 10…he has a vast resume of entertainment jobs and did not just suddenly spring to life on the Idol stage!
Please educate yourselves and next time, how about just a cool article about the man, the artist that IS Adam Lambert. You’ll never see him “letting young gay kids down” either, since he works with the Trevor Project and has a video for the “It Gets Better” campaign. DO YOUR HOMEWORK people! Thank you.
Well, I was going to point out that there’s a connection between Uh Huh Her and Adam Lambert, being that Camilla Grey worked as Adam’s keyboardist for most of his international Glam Nation Tour. I was also going to point out that while they seem a good match to me, I think Adam is both too famous and too focused on his own career to do any major collaborations right now.
But I see I’ve been beaten to the punch by a heaping helping of unjustifiable hatred.
Anyway, thank you, Rich. I thought it was a nice write-up and I think you have some good ideas. I’d like to see George Michael become an example for salvation (so to speak) among LGBTQ people.
Well, “Just Another Glambert”… Thanks but..that was anger, NOT hate that made me speak so passionately. I apologize if it was too strongly worded. “Hate” is a nasty word and only reserved for REAL and not perceived hurts.
I just get upset because even Adam himself has had some bad raps within the LGBTQ community. “He’s TOO flamboyant”…”He’s NOT representing the community properly”(Remember Details Magazine photo shoot and the editor of “Out” magazine criticizing Adam negatively while using him on the cover to sell mags??)
Thus the reason for my ongoing frustrations with not only some in the hetero community but also with so MANY in the LGBT community as well. Sorry if anyone took offense but the man can’t seem to walk a tight-wire well enough to please some.
re queenrosered’s points. Am a huge Lambert fan too, so fanatic that I drive friends crazy once in a while with Adam adulation. But I’d give credit where credit is due. Adam is potentially huge but he’s not there yet – he’s merely starting but it’s just a matter of time. George has been huge (yes, love his talent since WHAM days too) and he should be seen as an accomplished superstar. I’ve seen/heard him sang accapella briefly during a cameo appearance on a recent TV show and I was just blown. You see, I’ve loved the song Feeling Good ever since Adam performed it on Idol and thought no one could have sung it better, but when I caught George’s rendition on the said show, I was stunned. So they’re both greats in their own right, the old and the new. I see it as a fitting match of two greats if they did end up up collaborating. But I definitely am not too happy that Adam is thrown in together with the other names listed. For one, I don’t even know who the he*l they are. 🙂
Don’t really want to see Adam used to save someone else’s career. Adam is doing his own thing and I don’t see him getting pulled into some other drama. He does not need this early in his career. And I cannot see how this would be helpful to Adam. He does not need this kind of exposure.
@queenrosered, I’m not seeing the need for the anger, and I absolutely adore Adam. Nobody was insulting him. Suggesting him as a potential duet partner for George Michael is not a bad thing – George has had his issues, no doubt, but he has an impressive track record behind him and he can still “sang.” Adam has achieved much since he first graced our screens on “American Idol”, but he’s not a superstar yet. Hopefully his next album will do that for him. I think Jessica’s point is more applicable, in that Adam will be too busy promoting his own music to be able to do concerts with George, if that indeed is what GM is expecting from his collaborators.
Hi Josie! I was more FRUSTRATED than anything else when I made my first comment.
Now that I’ve had a “cooling down period” …I’ve reevaluated my response. Perhaps I was a bit too passionate but in my defense, I am Italian, lol!
HMM….”superstar”….what does that even mean actually? By what measure is one a superstar?
Last year, while Adam’s management scrambled to keep up with the demand for tickets to his Glam Nation Tour both at home and abroad, and had to change many shows to larger venues and add on more dates and cities etc… the sluggish music business was dealing with scaled-back or even canceled dates for many established artists. Acts as big as The Eagles and Rhianna were canceled.Other music stars had to double up with others to make a concert attractive enough to concert goers. The popular Lilith Fair was another casualty, canceled altogether. All this at a time when Lambert’s Glam Nation Tour was selling out Internationally as well as domestically. His cover of the Rolling Stone was it’s highest selling issue of 2009. I could go on but I think my point is made.
Also, though his record label is still RCA/19, he has new management, DMG who also manages Katy Perry, The Go-Gos, k.d. Lang etc…and I believe that will give him more artistic freedom as well as allowing his management to focus more on him since their stable is smaller.
You and Jessica are right, in that, he is too busy promoting his own material and gearing up for the release of his sophomore album and the tour to promote it.No slam to George Michaels intended. I simply believe that with a 41 piece orchestra, almost anyone can sound good. Lambert kicks butt with just a piano or acoustic guitar. He is being compared to Michael Jackson and Elvis Presley already as far as star potential and ability to effect the pop/rock world.Gay, straight or Glittery alien, doesn’t matter.
Anyone who has followed his career knows that he has achieved some truly remarkable philanthropic goals as well, like the Trevor Project and the Charity Water Project, raising over $320,000 in a month from fans all over the world. IMO, he already IS a superstar, by any definition.
I have no bone to pick with anyone except ABC who has continued to refuse to allow him to perform on their network ever since the AMAs in 2009.Just because of an unrehearsed onscreen kiss with his male keyboard/bassist (who by the way is straight) This… years after Madonna kissed both Brittany Spears and Christina Aguilera on the lips, on live TV and it was not censored.Double standard? Absolutely.
It sends the message that it’s OK for two girls, but NOT two guys. Why?
I can’t wait for true equality.Sexy is sexy and love is LOVE.
PS: Since I wasn’t able to edit my earlier posts, I know, it is George MICHAEL..not “Michaels” excuse the typos. Thanks! ;D
It would be nice to see Adam branching out with other greats. Unfortunately, like someone else said – he is probably just too busy, especially with his own album coming out soon, but certainly hope he gets to do lots of collabs along the way. I will listen to Adam sing any time, any where.
Who is Adam Lambert? Wasn’t he a winner of a TV game show?
Sorry did someone just say Adam Lambert is too BIG to sing with George Michael? Mhwahahahaha. Are you joking? George Michael is a bonafide A list superstar with a trail of international hits under his belt in a career that has spanned nearly 30 yrs. Adam who? lol
Love George Michael and he’s one of best singers I’ve ever heard. Adam is one of the best singers I’ve heard in the last 20 years..Adam is doing just fine and George doesn’t need Adam to sell records or concerts and Adam doesn’t need George to do the same. Adam is almost a superstar, his second album could elevate him to that and I’ll watch with concern as the gay blobs, media, forums, etc try to bring Adam down outta jealousy. The gay media has been very crappy to Adam, it’s amazing how he still does good in the community facing that. U would think the gay media would be proud of the fact Adam tied Daughtry as the 2nd most successful Idol alum this year.yes Adam did just as well as Daughtry
Also no comparison on success..George Michael has sold over 100 million records worldwide. Um queenrosered needs an education..Adam still has a ways to go but I think he’ll get to where he needs/wants to be. Um did queenrosered really George’s vocals..girl please..George can sing his butt off..no need to compare Adam to him..George’s legacy, sales, respect from other singers, etc.. speak for themselves, George is one of greatest male voices in pop music history..queenrosered don’t make me check u again..I love Adam but he ain’t the only dude that can SANG..
You are correct deadat….Lambert ain’t the “only dude that can sang…” He just happens to be the BEST male Pop or Rock singer alive today. Certainly there is NO comparison as far as legacy. Lambert has only 1 album out and his second due soon.Respect from other singers? Brian May and Roger Taylor of Queen think he is TOPS. Meat Loaf and Rob Halford as well as guitarist Slash agree. MANY in the entertainment world agree. Where have you been hiding?
Susan Boyle outsold Lambert and Michael COMBINED last year. So what do recent sales prove?
Stop living in the past and come up to the NOW. Adam Lambert is someone the gay community can be proud of! He has done MORE for LGBT causes in less than 2 years than MOST gay stars have in a lifetime! And he never asked for it, it was thrust upon him. So please gurl…don’t make ME check U again…umkay?
I have respect for G. Michael the artist. Can he sang? Why yes,yes he surely can. Can he sang like Lambert? Hahahahahahahahahahahahaha..etc..feel free to stop me whenever….hahahahahahaha! ;D
@queenrosered Adam is..okay, has a decent voice but to even TRY to compare him to GM is ridiculous. Not many in the pop world can stand next to George Michael in terms of talent, and BTW having a good voice is NOT a talent. Writing, arranging and producing your own material, directing your own videos and having huge international hits with that material…that’s talent!! and GM has shown he is stellar in that regard., I have a feeling you don’t really know many of GM’s records apart from the 80s stuff??? Maybe you were one of those American’s that turned their backs on him after the …ahem…toilet incident? Do yourself a favour and check out his body of work and if you still think AL is better than him I’ve got the number for a great doctor, he’ll set you straight.
@ KD WHANG … I wish I could add to your very informative comments regarding George and his complete Gift of Music; but, I can’t. You hit every nail on the head. Sadly, as you mentioned ~ Too many WHAM! and ‘FAITH’ era fans dropped George after a personal incident. How sad …. for them. They sure missed out on some great music and performances. I do have to say, I had myself a great laugh by the mention that “anyone” can sing great with a 41 piece orchestra behind them ~ The truth of the matter is, this 41 piece orchestra will come alive with George at the front of the stage. Those in doubt, get a dose of George on YouTube … especially, One More Try (Princes Trust Concert); Praying for Time (Sold on Song), Feeling Good (Live in London) … just for starters. NO ONE, can come close to this stellar performer, producer, arranger, writer and director. By the way, I’m American, and a #1 George fan … looking forward to his new tour and album ~ Like always 🙂 Oh, and Adam ? He may fit in George’s shoes … someday.
Jules AND KD Whang…I never “turned my back” on George Michael. If it weren’t for closed-minded, bigoted, short-sighted, intolerant homophobes in this world, no gay man (or woman!) would ever have to suffer the indignity that his feeling or belief that he HAD to stay closeted caused him.
I am familiar with and totally enjoy his music. Yes, I have said he is VERY talented. But even at my age (60) I can appreciate the UNGODLY, insane vocal ability of Lambert. And since you guys have taken the liberty of ASSUMING I don’t know much about George…I’ll ASSUME the same in regards to YOU and Adam Lambert. He has been STEEPED in theatrical productions since age 10 & if you had watched MTV s & VH1’s specials on him, you’d know that he has always been VERY involved in the entire process, the PERFORMANCE and choosing all his own dancers, band members , costumes, back-drops etc..as well as co-writing a few songs on his debut album. Watch him sing a song he co-wrote BEFORE Idol, for the Zodiac Show, called “Crawl Thru Fire”….He did his hair, clothes and make-up for that also.
His sophomore album, HIGHLY anticipated, has him writing or co-writing ALL the songs.I don’t think anyone scoffs at someone like Elton John, for instance, for songwriting collaboration, right?
And listen to the song “Soaked” on the Glam Nation Live Tour (on You Tube) realizing that with very LITTLE accompaniment he holds the audience spellbound..enthralled. Or check out Adam Lambert at Fantasy Springs-Whole Lotta Love…a 7.30 minute, impromptu bluesy acoustic jam that is MIND BLOWING. He even has the opera world all abuzz. So I don’t think HE needs to “fit in” anyone’s shoes. His on size 11’s are just right. My OPINION is a widely shared one and has nothing to do with GM or any other artist, straight OR gay. And that is all I have to say on this matter. Thank you.
That takes NADA away from GM. It’s just that perhaps I am not the ONLY ONE that needs to listen to a few videos. Good Day. <333
And that makes Adam Lambert ‘too big’ (your words) to sing with George Michael? Because he co wrote a few songs and you like his voice? That makes him TOO BIG for George Michael?
I see.
@queenrosered well, u absolutely love ADAM too much. I like it, But, don’t pull others down to praise Adam, please. Pulling other artists to praise ADAM just makes people hate ADAM. Remember that ADAM’s always nice to others. Behave as ADAM does, please.
Howerver, compare ADAM with Geogre Michael is unfair for ADAM. GM has 30 years of career to prove his “Great” and ” Huge”, ADAM has just begun his career. I actually think ADAM can be huge someday, It’s just a matter of time. Let ADAM sing, create the music to prove that. I agree with the writter that ” at now, ADAM is already big because of his unique and really big talent, but in very near future he will be very, very, very huge, not only because of his talent but also his warm heart and great personarity.
Every artist has his/her own speciality. That’s why they have their own fans. Don’t compare them.
It will be great if ADAM and GM collaborate someday, but i don’t want it happens now because ADAM must focus on his work and creat his own music.
I love George. But I dislike how queenrose spams every Lambert sight with her over the top post just to abuse people. Your article was fine imo. If there is a way to delete her comments please do so, because she adds nothing but rage to any website she visits on Lambert.
Adam seems like a nice talented guy and yet, he attracts people like queenrose? Poor guy, he deserves better from his fans than this garbage. What happened to civil discourse and respect? Surely queenrose needs to take a few courses on class!
“Kate”…..I have responded to comments about Lambert and comparisons between him and Michael or other artists.I have also commented on what a wonderful world it would be if homophobic haters didn’t exist. What I have NOT done is gotten personal in denigrating other posters. We all have a right to express our own opinions.Granted, some are worded a bit more passionately than others but they are opinions, nonetheless. What I have said was in praise of Lambert..not to do as you have done and personally slander other posters.Yes..slander.
You attack me and accuse me of “spamming”, “rage”, being “over the top” calling my comments “garbage” and even go so far as to attempt to censor me by calling for the deletion of my comments.
And please don’t think that by hiding behind an anonymous-sounding name on a website can fool me as to your TRUE identity. You have stalked and harassed me on other sites and are no fan of Lambert. I know who you are.And I know your real agenda. It has eff-all to do with George Michael OR Adam Lambert. It is a personal agenda to discredit myself.Period.
I also know Jade (above) and respect and even agree with her comment. I have apologized for my initial response here.I’ve also explained that it was in frustration, not anger and certainly not “hate”
I hope that puts an end to any further discussion regarding ME. After all, this article is about George Michael.Thank You and Good Day to All.
queen, it’s always about you more than it is ever about Adam. Stop clogging up every site cause I’m sure Adam would appreciate it and so would other posters.
@kate: I assure you, he has them, and it’s very frustrating for us when someone like QRR spams comment sections like a frothing lunatic. Adam has personally tweeted to ask people to tone it down, but a select few (emphasis on few) just do not learn.
And, yes, it’s especially frustrating when such people put down other artists. There was no need for that. (Nor is there any need to put down Adam. This isn’t a pissing contest, my friends. They are both highly talented and worthwhile.) His fans want Adam to make new fans and new friends in the industry, not alienate them.
@Just Another Glambert: Thanks for your response. Adam is sweet and I do think he deserves fans who are respectful out in public to one another, to non-fans, other artist or just people who write articles. Some of his fans are embarrassing to come across as well as rude too especially QRR. It’s high time people speak up about this because it isn’t doing Adam any favors to see this ugly display. It goes way too far imo. I too think that new fans will be alienated by people who try to act like they own him. Poor guy, I’m sure he is frustrated as well by their behavior.
Kate you sure seem to read a lot of Adam’s fans comments, lol. Ofcourse the haters follow Adam and bash his fans every chance they get. No, I am sure it is your behavior that Adam is frustrated with. The love and passion from Adam’s fans is completely understandable. Too many close-minded judgemental homophobic people follow Adam and his fans all the time only to cut them down whenever they think they can. These are the people who should be embarressed with their ugly displays.
is Adam’s fans are indeed passionate, but they are mostly positive, including Queenrosered, whom I’ve read often.
Adam and George are two different kinds of artiists. I don’t see them dueting together.
@just peachy..Wrong. I am a fan. I went to see him on tour. I don’t read a lot of Adam’s fans but when I have come across them some fans are bat..st..crazy and attack people, call them names, etc. That behavior is unacceptable imo. There is passion and there is crossing the line. This was a case of crossing that line imo. You are free to be impressed with that kind of behavior but I find it repugnant. Adam is a gentleman and I believe he would cringe at some of the things that have been said online to other fans or even about him. You can hang with whomever you choose but I prefer to stay in the respectful lane thank you.
Someone is paranoid but she is knocking on the wrong door here. I’m starting to think it’s a serious case of needing some therapy perhaps. Those accusations were so off the wall which leads me to believe this thing has gone too far and is not healthy either. All the best to you peach. I’ll just let Adam decide who he wants to work with. I’m not into making those decisions for anyone.
Kate, I think the people who follow Adam and his fans and attack them whenever they can are the bat crazy ones. Queen clogs up every site? You don’t read much? Your veil is thin.
Queenrosered,
I understand your frustration. Thanks for the informative posts, by the way. And you are always honest and those like Kate who can’t accept your initial apology is just looking to cause trouble (as usual).
Thank you for that Glambert support JustPeachy. I don’t recognize you from the user name but I DO recognize the passion for Lambert. Don’t you just love the way “Kate” manages to talk about being too passionate as “crossing the line”? Then suggesting that I’m the one who needs “therapy”? Ha!! Seriously “kate”…loosen up and get your freak on!
If Adam’s fans were all as lukewarm and blasé as Kate..he’d have a very small fan base indeed.
Seeing her say “I am a fan, I went to see him on tour” reminds me of the person who sits in church and is therefore a “Christian”..which is much like saying “I’m standing in a garage..I am therefore, a car”.
I’m sure George Michael has his share of passionate fans and is just as thankful for them as is Lambert.
I CAN tell from the manner of speaking and the manner of “attack” here, the identity of “kate” but won’t reveal it, out of respect for anonymity. I’ll just say this…she has posed as a fan of his and even wrote an awesome 5-star review for his first album. But once she started taunting other fans for being so “over the top” about him and found that she wasn’t accepted for her snarky, condescending responses…she turned her back on Lambert and his fans…….”Hell hath no fury like a woman scorned”…
Thanks again Peachy. It should be obvious to this website by now that the mere mention of Lambert will get responses and create discussion and controversy. He is good for business! Good Luck in the future to BOTH of these talented artists.
Queenrosered, Can you imagine the courage that Adam has? You are one brave Outlaw of Lambert. You are terrific!
Queenrosered, You are so funny! a car, a fan indeed, lol
Thanks again Peachy! Just keeping it real. I adore George Michael, Ricky Martin, Elton John and of course, a variety of other singers/groups who are straight
.”Gay” is not a prerequisite for Great..nor should it be an impediment. As Adam tweeted a couple months ago “I had lunch. I didn’t have a gay lunch. I parked my car…I didn’t gay park it”
Just as true equality between the sexes will never be realized until a woman can walk down the streets wearing Bermuda shorts, balding and with a paunch and think “Damn, I’m sexy!” neither will homo/hetero equality be achieved until people are seen for the content of their character and the merits of their actual talent without any NEED to even wonder or ask about who they are sleeping with. The Michelle Bachmanns of this world can TRY to “pray away the gay” from now until eternity.Gay is here to STAY.
Just as people come in all sizes, shapes, colors and ethnicity, so do they come with different preferences and tastes. There is no “right and wrong” There is no such thing as “too much passion”.
There is only acceptance or intolerance. I choose the former.
Yes, a fierce Outlaw of Lambert. Thanks Peachy, that has a nice ring to it!! For those of you who may not have heard this yet…please give a listen..this to be on his upcoming album:ENJOY! <333
https://youtu.be/qCsXPLDcD6c
Wow. I’m offically afraid of ‘Glamberts.’
@Blaze Bridges LOL! Now THAT is funny. Please allow me to give you a tip for your “protection”….BECOME a Glambert! That way, you have nothing to fear AND a great time with all of us at his concerts!! ;D
