For the LGBT community in Denton, hit up Denton Pride!’s Facebook and MySpace recently launched pages. The group looks like it is working to be an information resource for the community there and posts information regarding businesses, churches and organization all providing gay and gay-friendly options for Little d’s gay residents.

This is a new profile as of August 2009 which will attempt to provide as much information as possible about gay Denton and Denton County. This is a work in progress, so be patient as all the information is put on the site within the next few weeks.
While Denton doesn’t have a vibrant, active “gayborhood” as the large metropolitan cities like Dallas to the south, Denton is a growing city of 115,000 people with an active LGBT community.
Denton is home to the University of North Texas, the largest university in the Dallas-Fort Worth region and the fourth largest university in the state with almost 35,000 students. UNT was one of only two Texas colleges (along with the University of Texas) listed as best gay friendly universities in the United States according to “The Advocate College Guide for LGBT Students.”
Some may even see Denton as a mini-Austin, or they might say “Denton is the new Austin.” With a large liberal university, a strong music scene, lots of parks and Earth-friendly activists, it’s easy to understand why.
But for many people who move to Denton County, especially the more than 50,000 students who attend UNT, Texas Woman’s University in Denton and North Central Texas College in nearby Corinth, they may not be aware of the gay connections. Since there isn’t a gayborhood or gay community center, information isn’t easy to come by.
That’s where this Web page comes in handy. From newcomers and longtime Denton residents, this is intended to be a one-stop location to help you get to know Denton and Denton County even better. This page includes information about Denton as well as Denton County and other areas outside of the DFW Metroplex.
