LUFKIN — Landy T. Andrews, co-founder of Pride Alliance of Lufkin, announced Sunday that he is resigning as president of the organization after nearly two years in the role.

Andrews shared the news in an email sent at 9 p.m. Sunday to PAL members, sponsors and partners from his president@prideallianceoflufkin.org address, which he said would no longer be active going forward. The email did not name a successor as president or provide a timeline for the transition.

“It is with a mixture of gratitude, pride, optimism and a little sadness that I share with you my decision to step down as President of Pride Alliance of Lufkin,” Andrews wrote.

Pride Alliance of Lufkin was founded to provide “support, advocacy, connection and belonging for LGBTQIA2S+ individuals and allies in Deep East Texas,” Andrews said. It was founded in October 2024 and has been registered as a nonprofit since July 2025, according to PAL’s social media posts and IRS records. Andrews was among the small group who started the organization and has led it as president for almost two years.

“What began as an idea has grown into an organization that has touched lives, fostered meaningful relationships, and created opportunities for visibility and acceptance in our community,” he wrote.

Andrews said he is not stepping away from the organization entirely. As a founding member, he will continue serving as committee chair for PineyWoods Pride through October. He also said he hopes to serve in an advisory capacity through a Board of Trustees that PAL plans to establish, a role he said would help “provide continuity, guidance, and institutional knowledge while making space for new leadership, fresh ideas, and the next chapter of our organization’s growth.”

Andrews expressed confidence in the organization’s incoming leadership.

“The strength of this organization has never rested on a single individual, and it has always come from the collective passion, dedication, and resilience of its officers, members, partners and sponsors,” he wrote.
