Nathanael Gehrer

Carrollton police have arrested a suspect in the brutal murder of a gay man last weekend.

Nathaniel Gehrer, 25, of Wilimer is being held in the murder of Dustin Reeb, 22. The victim reportedly was known in Dallas by the alias of Shaun Walsh.

Gehrer admitted to the murder, which took place at Walsh’s Carrollton home on Friday, Nov. 30, police said. Carrollton police spokesman Jon Stovall said the murder was not a random attack.

Carrollton police released the following statement Wednesday:

“The Carrollton Police Department has charged Nathanael Gehrer, a 25-year-old resident of Wilmer, Texas with the November 30, 2012 murder of [a] Carrollton resident. The victim, believed to be 22-year-old Dustin Reeb, has not yet been positively identified by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office due to alias names that he had been using. The offense occurred inside the victim’s residence in the 2100 block of Placid Drive. Gehrer was arrested by Carrollton Detectives on December 4, 2012 and is currently being held in the Carrollton Municipal Jail. It is believed that Gehrer had been a social acquaintance of the victim.”

Online court records show that Gehrer has previously been arrested in Dallas County for assault, trespassing and theft. The records listed him as living at various addresses in Dallas, including one on Cedar Springs Road.
