Via my Facebook friend Michael Westley of Salt Lake City (I lived in Utah for three years), above is an actual flier that was posted on doors by a local LDS Stake Center (a division of the Mormon church).
“Trunk or Treat” is the LDS Church way of redressing Halloween. The kids meet and trade costumes from their collections. Like many other conservative denominations they are trying to de-halloween the day. More silly fundamentalists who believe more in the Devil than in their God.

Trunk or treat involves people meeting at a parking lot and the children trick or treating car to car instead of door to door. Many different groups do this in my community, not just LDS.

Over here in the UK, groups of people meet up late at night in car parks. We call it “Dogging”. Check Urban Dictionary.

Just like some fundie folks up in Canada trying out a new holiday: “Jesusween”!
My partner and I dressed as Mormon missionaries a few years back. During the Prop 8 campaign it was the scariest thing I could think of.

There is a woman I know on FB, who is a transgender person. I wrote this on her wall after she posted your sign thingie:
As you know, that address is in SANDY (suburb city), not Salt Lake City (a small but to me relevant fact). And there are some hard-core sorts out there, just as there are all the way through the valley. THEN you got ones (Mormons) like me who are so liberal, we’re probably breaking a rule or eighty. My point being that the “Mormon Church” did not warn against cross dressing, some particular ward or stake in Sandy did. The advice might have come down from the leaders, but I suspect that it’s one or two in that area that are making that distinction. Around here? They’ve passed out NOTHING except to say there’ll be a “trunk or treat” at the church parking lot. It says nothing about what costumes to wear. I find the wholesale bashing of religion just as offensive as I find gender bashing or gay bashing. Hate is hate.

For me as a kid, most of the fun of trick or treating was actually walking from house to house, seeing the scary yard decorations, wondering what might be hiding in the shadows… but going from car to car in a parking lot? Why bother?

I too enjoyed going house to house and glomming onto more candy than I sensibly needed and the costumes were always so much fun. But these days? Too many weirdos (at least in Salt Lake) for parents to feel confident their kid won’t be subjected to something (people actually put razor blades and drugs into stuff). It’s a sick world today, and I too am glad I got to live when you COULD really trick or treat.

I have two things I want to talk about. First off, why is the topic starting to go towards how its done the main problem here is the cross dressing. We should be discussing how the LDS church is finding more ways to show their hate towards gays, and you don’t have to be gay to cross dress on halloween, I mean really. And the second thing, what would that stake do if someone showed up as a cross dresser, I do hope they don’t turn them away, that would be a-whole-nother scandle in its self.
Ideally the gender transformation would be so believable that they wouldn’t know the person was dressed as the other gender.

Trunk or Treat is an awesome way to celebrate Halloween and keep your children safe. Those that participate in this activity are all people we meet and greet daily in our communities. I am from Idaho and spend Halloween in Alabama with my grandkids. I am LDS (mormon) and would like to add that although there are very few LDS churches in Mobile, there are many churches such as Catholic, Methodist and the list goes on that advertise and offer Trunk or Treat as a safe and fun place to get lots of candy and participate in wholesome family activities (which is exactly what Trunk or Treat is). The statement of trading out costumes makes me laugh simply because this person must not even know or done their research as to what ‘Trunk or Treating” is and yet has to give an opinion anyway! This is how society views things, we are quick to judge and easy to accuse……. Maybe if we all excepted that we do live in a free country and we all have freedom of religion and we each are able to chose our own beliefs and values and if we choose to love one another regardless of our differences we would all be a much happier nation and have safer neighborhoods! Just a thought everyone, have a safe and Happy Halloween!!!!!

I went car to car in a parking lot once, but that was for a totally different reason. being formerly married into the LDS church…you know they’re no different than any other denomination – they have just as many skeletons in their closet (no pun intended) and after getting away from them, and the church, it’s surprising how many gay mormons I’ve met. on another aspect – my company does the same thing, only they disguise it as “work appropriate costumes” and dressing in drag, isn’t considered work appropriate, just as the females in the office dressing as the slutty bunny/maid/nurse etc is not work appropriate…and wondering…how does this church deal with clowns? considering they don’t have to be gender specific, although, it requires wearing a colorful costume, make up, and a wig…wouldn’t that technically be the same thing??

I agree with Boopsieone. When you post things like that, you’re saying “Look what the Morons are doing now!” when that really isn’t the case. It also says, “no masks” but you didn’t ask about that. This was one ward or Stake that passed this thing out, more than likely a certain auxiliary. The Church has nothing against clowns, that I know of, unlessyou mea uninformed pople speading htred. I have nothing at all against cross dressers or trans-gender people, or gay people, either. Unlike many fundamentalist Christian Churches (who ar ethe ones you should REALLY be worrying about), we do not believe that God hates gays, or cross dressers or anyone. And, many churchesand communities participate in trunk or treat. My kids have never gone to one, we go door to door. Quit seeing something wher there is nothing and stop spreading hatred. I will never understand that.
Are mask a gay thing now too? I am going to be a pig this year for Halloween I wonder if cross-breeding is allowed?
What is Trunk-or-Treating?
But “magic underwear” would be just fine! The Mormon Church is a bigger enemy of LGBT than the Holy Roman Catholic Church. And that’s saying a lot.
I bet there is never an empty glory hole up there in Mormonsville.
No masks on Halloween? That’s completely MORmONIC. Cross dressing might make you GAY, heaven forbid.
