If your dog plays fair, shares his toys and gets along with others, then he’ll be right at home at Petropolitan. With six large, indoor play areas, each with a fantastic Japanese theme (like the Zen Pen or Geisha Room), it’s like a boutique hotel for today’s hipster canines. Whether it’s just for the afternoon, or overnight while you’re on vacation, the staff will treat your dog like he’s one of their very own. Professional grooming services are also cutting-edge, which means the latest doggie ‘dos will get your furry friend noticed for all the right reasons.

AT LEAST IT’S NOT HERDING CATS | Top dog walker Patrick Phelan happily escorts a trio of hounds. (Photo by Arnold Wayne Jones)

If you imagine the life of a professional dog walker being like a scene from Sex and the City, with one guy happily escorting a dozen well-behaved pooches out on a morning stroll before returning to life in his Park Avenue penthouse, well, so did Patrick Phelan. That was before he opened Pet Home Pal; now, he knows the truth is very different. Multiple dogs are hard (especially if they aren’t family). The hours are long. And Dallas ain’t as centralized as Manhattan. That he’s able to maintain a happy demeanor, caring for Fido two or more times a day while you’re out of town or stuck at work, makes his service not only invaluable but also admirable. Of course, there are perks for him, too: He has calf muscles like a marathoner. You can thank the energetic Great Dane puppies for that. And thank Patrick for everything else.

BEST PLACE TO RUN WITH THE BIG DOGS
Unleashed Indoor Dog Park
5151 Samuell Blvd.
UnleashedDogParks.com

We could argue that it’s a copout to take a dog in for a walk rather than out. Win or lose that argument, we’re still gonna head to Unleashed to let Fido frolic with the slew of others who have taken to the notion of an indoor dog park (especially one that sponsors gay-owner socials). Unleashed has everything covered, with big and small dog spaces, training classes, grooming, boarding and even a café for the humans. With 25,000 square feet of turf along with bridges, tunnels and obstacles, it’s like DisneyWorld for dogs.
