Sugar & Gold’s pump and hump "¡Aya!" remix EP teased listeners, giving them a taste of what this freaky five-some from San Francisco was capable of doing (i.e. "Slice Me Nice") with beats and bravado. Like a left-coast version of Ssion, Sugar & Gold demonstrates a shameless fondness for the disco/dance pop of the ’80s, but delivers it with a sweet and shiny contemporary twist on their second full-length Get Wet! disc. "Feels Like Fire" burns up the dance floor, while "Sneek Freq" funks shit up. "It’s All Over You" bubbles over like a champagne orgasm and "Stay Soft" will have you working hard, dancing vertically or horizontally.

"Bodyaches" is a pain worth enduring, as "Call Me (Softly)" keeps it on a minimal, although no less fierce, level. And "Aya," from the previously mentioned EP, makes a reappearance to close the disc on a hot note.

TASTING NOTES

Even though Dallas Pride is traditionally celebrated in September, it’s already National Gay Pride Month, so there’s no reason you can’t get in on the fun — and deliciously so.

Cupcakes have been the rage since Magnolia Bakery in New York made them must-haves; then Dallas got its own Sprinkles. But to my sweet-tooth, Frosted Art Bakery & Studio’s confections are even better.

Food Network pastry queen Brownen Weber — Frosted Art’s executive chef — has whipped up some of her signature cupcakes with gay Pride themes. The base food is the same, which is to say, something magical: Moist, compact but not dense, and with icing as rich and heavenly as the creative cake flavors underneath.

But what makes these Pridecakes, as Frosted Art is calling them, is the rainbow (literally) of colors and decors: red raspberry, orange with dark chocolate, yellow cake with salty caramel, green mint, blue curacao with coconut and violet "velvet" cake. You can then top them with Prideful, edible imagery emblazoned on fondant: the HRC equality symbol, two grooms, interlocking masculine or feminine symbols, even a pink triangle.

Whether it’s out of spite or just savvy business sense, the catch is that the Pridecakes are only available by-the-dozen ($39) with a two-dozen minimum. It’s not that I mind paying, I just don’t know I can spare that much time at the gym, cuz I ain’t sharin’. Visit FrostedArt.com to place your order.

You can show your Pride and do some good for the Celebrity Chefs Sunday Brunch this weekend honoring jeweler and philanthropist Joe Pacetti, who has been instrumental in supporting DIFFA and the hot meals program at Resource Center Dallas. This luncheon, though — held on Desco Drive from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on June 6 — benefits Legacy Counseling Center and Founders’ Cottage. Restaurants like Salum, Hotel St. Germain and Sambuca will be offering up their fare. A limited number of tickets will be available at the door, so best to order online at CelebrityChefsBrunch.com.
