Supporters of Annise Parker have begun gathering at the George R Brown Convention Center to watch results of the race.
In early voting, Parker is in the lead with 51 percent. Only 500 votes separate them out of 66,000 votes already counted.
Volunteers at the convention center said that the liberal white Democratic vote is going to Parker. The black vote is strong for Locke. The Hispanic vote seems fairly evenly split. The question is where the conservative, white Republican will go.
