Back in July we told you that the Dallas Stonewall Young Democrats had finally convinced the city to install 45 new streetlights in the Oak Lawn area, in response to the group’s Light Up Oak Lawn safety campaign.
This morning, DSYD President Jared Pearce informs Instant Tea that he’s received word from the city that all of the new streetlights have now been installed.
“We are excited that, after much time was spent evaluating the need, conducting resarch, auditing the neighborhood and working with our elected leaders and city officials, we are able to finally see the results of what DSYD started a year and a half ago and, most importantly, a safer community in which we can all live and play,” Pearce said.
Where are they?
If you live in the neighborhood and walk pretty much everywhere (like I do), believe me you notice the difference. Can’t light up every corner b/c of that whole night/no light thing. Just gonna have to use precautions as usual.
then they’re apparently to the south of cedar springs – I DO live in the neighborhood (north side of CS), and I DO walk everywhere…and I haven’t noticed a single one. don’t get me wrong – the south side does need them more considering thats where a “majority” (and I use the word quite loosely) of the crime happens, especially about 2 blocks south of the stip around the elementary school, and on several of the cross streets where it’s always been pretty dark…but I would have liked to of seen more of them placed on the northern parts of throckmortin or reagan before lemmon ave…but oh, well they’re better than what we had before…which was nothing.
At least Stonewall young democrats rolls up their sleeves and does something to benefit the gayborhood. That’s more than Log Cabin has done for the local community. I can’t think of a single thing they’ve done.Kudos to young Stonewall for getting the job done!
now Cerebral1…that isn’t true! they’ve put an overly dramatic princess on a LOGO show so he can talk about how much sex he has, but yet he’s very christian, and looks down on those that do.
