Despite cold temperatures and strong wind hundreds of runners participated in Dash for the Beads as Mardi Gras weekend in Oak Cliff began Saturday, March 5. Runners included groups from Oak Cliff elementary schools, “traditional” families and many members of the LGBT community.
Some raced in runners outfits and others in costume. Most wore plenty of beads. Runners began returning to Bishop Arts District, where the race began and ended, by 9:20 a.m. Everyone was back by 10 a.m.
Sponsors and vendors set up tents along Bishop Street.
Sheriff Lupe Valdez was among the race and costume contest judges.
And a lot of the morning was all about the dogs. Most were in costume.
