The New York State Senate is finally expected to vote today on a bill that would legalize same-sex marriage in the nation’s third-most-populous state, ABC 7 reports. The bill has already passed the State Assembly, and it has the support of Gov. David Paterson. ABC 7 says it’s unclear whether the bill has enough votes to pass the Senate, but I seriously doubt Senate leaders would bring it to the floor if it didn’t. If the bill passes, legislative bodies in New York State and Washington D.C. will have voted to legalize marriage on consecutive days. How big is that? I would say it’s huge.
