Queer Music News is a smattering of what’s going on in music by LGBTQ artists and the artists we love.

Here’s a wrap-up of music we’ve received in recent days for your new music Monday.

Tom Goss drops twerky anthem celebrating bear love

Out singer-songwriter Tom Goss continued his “bear song anthology” series late last month with the new track “Bear Soup.” Following the tracks “Bears,” “Round in All the Right Places,” and “Nerdy Bear,” this new song “is a celebration of body positivity, joyful indulgence, and the vibrant bear subculture.”

The song is produced by Maya La Maya and features Brooklyn-based rapper Chris Conde,

“I was thinking about fun ways to celebrate body positivity, especially within the bear ecosystem,” Goss said in the song’s press release. “It occurred to me—why don’t bears have their own twerk anthem? Most bears have more to twerk with than just their butts. I want folks to twerk their bellies, their butts, and anything else that jiggles!”

“Bear Soup” is a musical departure for Goss, who describes it as his most dance-driven release to date. Goss’ origins stem in more pop-laced, acoustic Americana sounds that evolved into more pop-rock vibes as more production was added in. In this track, Goss found his inner sick beats.

“I was listening to these artists while on tour, constantly writing and re-writing the lyrics,” he added. “Maya and I spent nearly a year locking in the perfect tempo and vibe. When Chris Conde dropped his hefty, beefy verse, the track truly came alive.”

The single’s music video—directed by longtime collaborator Michael Serrato—leans into the summer trend of the bear pool party.

“We wanted to create the kind of playful, sexy visuals we wish we’d seen growing up,” he mentioned.

Queer folk band Palmyra announces tour dates following latest album release

This has been a good year for the folk trio Palmyra. Fresh off the release of their debut album Restless on Oh Boy Records this spring and the conclusion of their headline tour, the queer-centric band returns with new dates for summer including a Dallas stop later this fall.

The band will perform on Nov. 16 at Club Dada in support of alt-rocker Ethan Regan on his I Almost Graduated Tour.

The band’s debut album features 10 tracks that tackle topics from suicide and gender dysphoria to identity and the relentless pressure of capitalism and reflect a band unafraid to push boundaries particularly within their bluegrass/folk genre. Palmyra’s members – Sasha Landon, Teddy Chipouras, and Mānoa Bell met in a college to then form a trio built on democracy, respect and equal agency.
