A while back Dallas Voice received a visit from some folks at NBC 5, who interviewed Publisher Robert Moore and Senior Editor Tammye Nash about the newspaper’s role in the LGBT community.
To be perfectly honest, no one around here was quite sure what the segment was for, but thanks to a tip from Rafael McDonnell at Resource Center Dallas, now we know: It’ll be part of a program called Spotlight, which airs at 11:30 a.m. Sunday on Channel 5. On Spotlight, “North Texas correspondents come together in order to spin narratives from real-life stories involving persons who contribute to their community,” according to the NBC 5 website.
We also found a site dedicated to the show, where they’ve posted several of the segments about the LGBT community. In addition to Dallas Voice, there are segments on Youth First Texas, transgender Dallas Police Officer Deborah Grabowski, a Haltom City lesbian couple that adopted a child; the Dallas Diablos; three LGBT-affirming churches in Oak Cliff; gay filmmaker Marlon T. Riggs; and LULAC #4871 President Jesse Garcia.
We know, it seems like a lot, but each segment is only a few minutes long, and they’re all well done.
Major kudos to NBC 5 for putting these together, but you don’t have to wait till Sunday to see them. We’ve posted all of the segments, in the same order they’re listed above, after the jump.

Its too bad that Northaven United Methodist Church, a Reconciling Congregation was not included in this segment. This church has a long history of been open and affirming with the LGBT community.
I understand how viewers whose favorite person or group isn’t included in this program will be disappointed. The cool thing is that our community has matured to the point that no media coverage – not even a multi-story package like this one – can include everything. Props to KXAS!
I agree with Craig. This is a wonderful bit of coverage. I am interested to see if KXAS gets any flack from this. I hope not.
Interesting and provocative news, John Wright.
Congratulations to KXAS for this landmark tele-event! At Brite Divinity School, we are particularly proud of the inclusive and loving witness of our students, Leonard Dacy from Promise MCC and Rev. Alex Byrd from Living Faith Covenant Church, who are also our students! The North Texas LGBTQ community has many stories left to tell, and I hope that local and national media will get along with the business of communicating the good things on offer in this vibrant, growing field for gender variant life in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex.
We are standing at the brink of equality, and in these stories, our brothers and sisters are given some glimpses through the eyes of LGBT Americans. I was particularly touched that the “T” was included in the coverage. To all affirming people and groups, and to KXAS, much Love and Light.
