Dallas Lesbian Festival fills gap in Big D music scene

In terms of music festivals, Dallas doesn’t have too much to offer. The suburbs have Wildflower in Richardson and Real Texas Festival in Mesquite, but save for maybe Fair Park and some touring-paloozas, there’s not much here that just celebrates a whole lot of music at one time. Yes, we know Dallas is no Austin, but for the music culture here, it could try. Sue Ellen’s thankfully fills the void a bit with its 2010 Dallas Lesbian Festival. The one-day festival is a celebration of both music and the lesbian community. The event keeps it mostly local with its lineup but also brings in national artists such as Kristy Lee and Sarah Slaton.
The line-up features Dallas artists and community faves like Ciao Bella, Heather Knox, Lisa Michaels and recent Readers Voice award winner Anton Shaw.
"I’m so I glad I can perform for the community and still represent who I am," she says.
Shaw is a favorite among the LGBT music scene singing her variety of rock and country, sometimes with her band The Reason. And she knows it’s not just the ladies she’s playing for. She’s added some covers of Lady Gaga songs that get all the gays and gals roaring. But her slower acoustic version of "Poker Face" is something close to a religious experience that must be experienced firsthand.
