Manhunt users who are over 40 now have an additional resource from the site aside from the cruise-chat-connect option for which it’s come to be known. The site’s health resource Manhunt Cares announced today it’s new Sex Over 40 resource for “older gay and bisexual men.” The site teams up with Dr. Loren Olsen, author of Finally Out: Letting Go of Living Straight, in providing information to this demographic.

I’m rather fascinated by this announcement. I had no idea that hitting 40 “can be brutally intimidating” and I’m trying to correlate the idea of the sex toy study as the partial basis for this new resource. Anyway, their hearts are in the right place and since I’ll be part of this demographic soon, well, one more resource couldn’t hurt. Below is the full press release:

August 8th, 2011—They say straight men get better with age, but is the same true of gay men? For a community with so many obsessions around beauty and image, the idea of turning 40 can be brutally intimidating. It’s natural for every guy to run through those same lines: “at what age will I stop turning heads?” or “will anyone want to have sex with me in my forties, fifties, and beyond?”

Upon noticing a lack of resources for the aging gay man, Manhunt Cares has launched “Sex Over 40”, an on-going and permanent fixture to its industry-leading site for Manhunt members and the gay/bi community at-large. This new informational feature covers topics that are relevant to gay men who have questions, concerns, and curiosities about sex and aging. Future topics will include finding love in late life, sexual performance, and more.

A recent paper, “Sex Toy Use by Gay and Bisexual Men in the United States” (Rosenberger, et al), polled members of Manhunt (www.manhunt.net – Online Buddies, Inc.’s (OLB) flagship product) – for their annual US National Men’s Sex Study. Of over 25,000 survey respondents, 45% were 40 years of age or older, and 68% were 30 or older. Based on this study and others performed on Manhunt, “Sex Over 40” will benefit an enormous pool of Manhunt’s 4 million members worldwide.

“Manhunt Cares is thrilled to provide this new resource to an underserved population of gay and bisexual men based on needs identified in our annual survey,” says David S. Novak, Senior Health Strategist at OLB.  Novak states this new partnership with author and psychiatrist Loren A. Olson, M.D., who supplied much of the content for “Sex Over 40”, will assist a majority of their older members.

In addition to being a popular educational voice on the subject of gay aging, Dr. Olson’s new book, Finally Out: Letting Go of Living Straight (inGroup Press, 2011), has received numerous praise for its wealth of knowledge and compelling story. A frequent Huffington Post and Psychology Today blogger, Dr. Olson is the ideal contributor for this new and exciting feature of Manhunt Cares.
