James Deets

One Man Project announced 21 nominees for the One Man Dallas award. At least two are from the the gay community.

The group honors men affiliated with a local charity. This will be the second year for the award that encourages men to volunteer, because women volunteer at a rate five times that of men.

Among those of interest to the gay community are volunteers James Deets with Legal Hospice of Texas and Eric Peay with Community Partners of Dallas.

“James has been a volunteer for 12 to 15 years and serves on our board,” said LHT Executive Director Roger Wedell. “He volunteers with LifeWalk and is a member of the Dallas Bar Association. We thought it was a fitting nomination.”

As a volunteer with Community Partners of Dallas, Peay helps collect supplies for children going into Child Protective Services custody.

“Eric and James are collaborating on their volunteer educational project for One Man,” Wedell said.

One Man Project began in Minneapolis in 2009 and added a Chicago award in 2010.

The winner will be announced on May 12.

Go to the One Man Dallas website before May 10 to vote.
