Houston police have arrested a man they say is responsible for five murders last year, including two in which the victims were transgender women. Lucky Ward, 46, is a serial killer who targeted those he perceived as vulnerable, according to police.
Ward’s victims included Gypsy Rodriguez, 40, of Houston, a transgender woman who was found dead Sept. 13; and Myra D. Ical, 51, a trans woman who was found dead Jan. 18, 2010. Both women were murdered near Houston’s heavily LGBT Montrose area.
The Houston Chronicle has published a story that identifies Rodriguez and Ical by their male birth names, refers to them with male pronouns and calls them “men who dressed as women.” Meghan Stabler, a transgender activist from Houston, said on her Facebook page that she’s asked the newspaper to correct the story.
And so Gypsy Rodriguez and Myra Ical are victimized again
Houston PD, in the news release of the arrest., misgenders Myra and Gypsy. If I remember correctly, they misgendendered Myra at the time of her killing. Perhaps a call to John Cannon, the head of HPD’s media office, should be made.
Ummm…to the rest of us who are not transgendered, they are still whatever sex they were born. Good grief, the world does not revolve around the chosen genders and their pronouns of choice.
A life lost is a life lost to me…gender is irrelevant.
I wouldn’t be so quick to speak for “the rest of us”, Tracy. Most non-trans people that I know have no issue referring to people in the way they’ve chosen.
Since the world doesn’t revolve around it, I guess it’d be all right with you if I called you by a different name and the opposite pronoun to the one you normally use. Doesn’t matter, correct?
I am almost certain hes the guy i almost lit up with my tazer near the liquor store at fairview near montrose blvd about a year or 2 ago,… I was running over there for ciggies in the morning b4 I had my makeup on (otherwise I usually pass) He started by calling me Sir and demanding a dollar, i told him no, he started calling fucking fag this and that while he pushed me and threw hot coffe all over me…. I came about 1 inch from lighting this bastard up with my taser, I mean he had already assaulted me, he jumped back just in time lucky SOB, he got backed up about 7 feet away and started cursing and using more degrading remarks about my gender/percieved sexualitty (faggot queer etc) and acting like he was going to still come at me.. , I took 3 quick steps at him and he started running…. at which point I kinda lost it an started to laugh at him and told him ,that he was runnin from a bitch and that makes him a bitch.. he turned around after about 10 feet when i said that, though about coming at me again, I saw it , and told him, comeon, fight me like a man…ur a big man now arent you running like a bitch from a sissy…. at which point he walked off fuming and cursing…. I did not persue, I told store manager what happened , and since I was in a rush to get somewhere I had already commited to, I could not wait for the police. .
i apologize for the language, but needless to say my manners went right to the curb and that is exactly how it happened.

Your article needs updating.According to records Nathan Davis was also transgender and killed by a shot from a firearm from this suspect from what I read.
