With the wide array of plans and information sources out there, Medicare coverage can present many challenges for those just getting signed up. It can be difficult to wade through it all to find the information you need to choose the right plan for you.

Dallas resident Kay Wilkinson says she is thankful she found the answers for her questions through local agent Steven Graves, with Medicare4USA.com.

After working til the age of 70, Wilkinson — now retired — had private insurance through her job for years. When it came time to enroll in Medicare, she found it a very daunting process.

“It was a quagmire of information,” she says. “I got so discombobulated and confused. I thought, what am I going to do?”

For individuals approaching Medicare eligibility, Wilkinson explains that there is a seven-month enrollment window to sign up for Medicare Parts A and B and to select either a Medicare Supplement or Medicare Advantage plan. This enrollment period begins three months before the month of your 65th birthday and ends three months after that month.

Missing this initial enrollment period can result in limited options and the loss of guaranteed acceptance for a Medicare Supplement plan and a lifetime monthly penalty. Wilkinson recommends beginning the process three months prior to your 65th birthday month to avoid potential late-enrollment penalties.

Everyone’s situation is different and for assistance or clarification, she suggests contacting Steven Graves at Medicare4USA.com, because it’s always better to ask for assistance, than deal with a error down the road.

Her next piece of advice is to stay calm. Sit down, go slow and be sure you read and outline everything, she urges. “It’s very important to sign up completely. Don’t do it halfway. Complete the process.

“If you get confused, don’t get mad; get help,” she continues, adding that anyone with questions as they start the enrollment process can call their local Social Security Office, too.

“In Dallas, we are very blessed because we have a very professional office on Central Expressway with bilingual services,” Wilkinson says. “They are very knowledgeable.”

Still, while “they were very helpful,” she notes, “they can’t tell you what to sign up for.”

Then someone recommended that she contact Graves. Since she already knew him from each of them having been involved in the Dallas community for some time, she decided to reach out to him for help.

“When I called Steven, the first thing he said was, ‘Put all your questions together, and I would like to meet with you personally.’”

That was a surprise, Wilkinson recalls, because no one really meets in person anymore.

When they met, she continues, Graves went over several different options with her.
I was worried about it; I was anxious,” Wilkinson says. “I was listening to everybody. There are so many plans, and it’s so daunting. Reading the information was difficult, and I just wasn’t sure I’d make the right decision.”

She goes on to explain that, as a breast cancer survivor, it’s imperative that she find the right plan that will cover any potential health issues.

Graves helped her find the plans she needed, exceeding her expectations in the process.
How did he exceed expectations? Wilkinson says that the first thing he did was pick up his phone — something very rare in these days of AI and chatbots.

“I even called back a few times, and he picked up,” she says. “He’s very attentive and knowledgeable. He even did the extra research a couple of times and got back to me.”
Wilkinson also emphasizes that Graves’ services are free to the consumer.

“I expected to pay a flat fee,” she says. “I asked, ‘What do I owe you,’ and he said, ‘Don’t worry about it.’”

This is a very important service that Graves offers, Wilkinson says, noting, “I know there are a lot of people like Steven that do this. I just found that he was very attentive and very sweet. I am very grateful.”

And while she initially went through a lot of anxiety, Wilkinson says she now feels confident in the decisions she made because Graves helped her understand what she’s needed to do, and he helped wade through the sea of the supplemental coverage options. Thanks to

Graves’ help, she says, “I’m no longer worried.”

Despite the daunting process and the overload of information, the importance of coverage remains a priority for many. As Wilkinson says, it’s important to remain calm and make sure to read everything carefully and make sure you understand it completely. “I am very worried about what’s going on with healthcare, especially for the underprivileged,” Wilkinson say, noting that the current situation has made her think about people who can’t afford coverage or don’t know what to do.

“It really has me worried,” she says. “For our country to be so advanced, our healthcare system is so inefficient in so many ways. It is complicated, expensive and not easy to understand.

“Our government needs to make it easier to use and navigate.”

Wilkinson said she is thankful she found her solution with Steven Graves and Medicare4USA.com. Her gratitude and appreciation for his services serve as proof that, although it can be difficult getting started, finding the right person to guide you through the process should be everyone’s top priority.
