HRC diversity committee, Valiente host roundtable Monday at On The Border
The Human Rights Campaign diversity committee and Valiente will host a roundtable discussion for LGBT organizations for people of color.
The meeting will be at 7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10 at On the Border 3130 Knox St. in Dallas.
The HRC diversity committee, which has been meeting for two years, aims to understand what’s important to LGBT people of color. The project is looking for ways to increase collaboration among organizations and to get more LGBT people of color involved.
Highlights from the new HRC study titled "At the Intersection: Race, Sexuality and Gender" will be discussed at the roundtable.

Queer LiberAction brings ‘The Great Nationwide Kiss-In’ to Dallas on Aug. 15
Queer LiberAction will host a Queer Kiss-In in downtown Dallas on Aug. 15 as part of "The Great Nationwide Kiss-In."
The Dallas Kiss-In will begin at 1 p.m. in the Rosa Parks Plaza at Lamar and Elm streets.
The Great Nationwide Kiss-In — with similar events planned in dozens of U.S. cites at the same time — was conceived by bloggers David Badash of New York and David Mailloux of Boston, in response to three recent incidents in which LGBT people were detained after kissing in public. The incidents occurred in San Antonio, Salt Lake City and El Paso.
"In 2009 GLBT people have every right to display our affections publicly just as everyone else does," said Queer Liberaction founder Blake Wilkinson, who added the Rainbow Lounge raid in Fort Worth to the list of recent anti-gay incidents. "We are holding the Queer Kiss-in at the Rosa Parks Plaza to illustrate how GLBT people are treated as second-class citizens."
Dallas’ Matt Goodman named to Board of Directors for BiNet USA
Matt Goodman, president of DFW BiNet, has been appointed to the Board of Directors for BiNet USA.
"This is a unique opportunity to build a stronger, healthier bisexual movement. Let’s hope that this inspires others to a call to action," said Goodman, who spearheaded a rejuvenation of the fledging DFW BiNet chapter last year.
BiNet USA, the oldest national bisexual entity in the U.S., is a network of groups, projects and individuals, encouraging dialogue and participation as a way of creating and maintaining a cohesive bisexual community and empowering individuals to feel proud of their bisexuality, according to the group’s Web site.
Goodman will be the organization’s representative to the National Gay and Lesbian Task Force’s Creating Change Conference to be held in Dallas next spring. He will be planning the bisexual leadership and training day.
In addition, he expects to be active in the rebranding of the organization, he said, "to be more of a nationwide powerhouse."
