Turtle Creek Chorale presents concert highlighting songs of social movements

The Turtle Creek Chorale presents “Songs of Our Nation,” a concert featuring songs from various social movements in the country’s history, on Sunday and Wednesday at the Meyerson Symphony Center.

Tim Seelig, artistic director for the chorale, said about 4000 students in the Dallas Independent School District will attend the concert and a pre-concert lecture on different social and civil rights movements, including women’s rights, civil rights and GLBT rights.

Johnson to speak on history of Dallas’ GLBT community

Phil Johnson, the unofficial historian of the Dallas GLBT community, will present a slide show on the roots of the community on Tuesday and on April 8 at the Phil Johnson Historic Archives and Research Library, located inside the John Thomas Gay and Lesbian Community Center, 2701 Reagan.

The presentation, which will be followed by a question-and-answer session and an open house at the library, celebrates National Library Week, April 2-8. The slide show begins at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, and at 2 p.m. on April 8. For more information, call 214-528-0144.

Cathedral of Hope to screen new UCC ads on inclusivity

Cathedral of Hope will present an advance screening of a new television commercial for the United Church of Christ promoting inclusiveness at the cathedral’s 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services on Sunday. The Rev. Ben Guess, director of the United Church of Christ news service, will attend the services to introduce the commercial.

The commercial, titled “Ejector,” makes its national television debut on several networks Monday. It is part of the United Church of Christ’s Still Speaking Initiative, an ongoing effort to promote the church’s openness to all people.
