“‘Toys in Boyland’ dance party to collect donations of toys for needy children

Boys4Toys will hold its eighth annual toy collection event on Saturday, Dec. 2, from 8 p.m. to 2 a.m. at Kul, 1303 Main Street in Dallas, and the “Toy Dance Pajama Party” after-party from 2 a.m. to 7 a.m. at 4641 Production, No. 9.

The events will benefit the Dallas Children’s Advocacy Center and the WFAA “Santa’s Helpers.” Admission is $20 with a new, unwrapped toy to donate, or $40 without a toy for “Toys in Boyland” and $20 for the “Toy Dance.”

Rafael Campo headlines LGBT authors series at Oak Lawn Public Library

Rafael Campo, MD, will appear Saturday, Dec. 2, at 2 p.m. at the Oak Lawn Public Library as part of the Dallas Public Library’s ongoing LGBT authors series.

Campo is the author of “The Poetry of Healing,” a collection of prose that won a Lambda Literary Award for Memoirs. He is also a PEN Center West Literary Award finalist, the recipient of the National Hispanic Academy of Arts and Sciences Annual Achievement Award and fellowships from the Guggenheim Foundation and the Echoing Green Foundation.

Campo is a practicing physician at Harvard Medical School and the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center in Boston.

The program will be held in the auditorium of the Oak Lawn Library, 4100 Cedar Springs Road. Seating is limited. The program is free and open to the public.

Alexandre’s to play host to Holiday Wreath Charity Auction benefiting Resource Center

Alexandre’s, a nightclub located at 4026 Cedar Springs Road, will be host for the first annual Holiday Wreath Charity Auction benefiting the Resource Center of Dallas, on Dec. 11, from 8 p.m. to 11 p.m.

The event will be emceed by Mark Alan Smith and will include catered food, silent bidding, valet parking, drink specials and prizes for the top three entries. Seating for the event is reserved, available for $20, and attire is semi-formal.

Entry into the auction and contest is open to the public, and entries are now being accepted. Silent bids will be accepted from Monday, Dec. 4 through Dec. 11.

Ryan Place homes on Candlelight Christmas tour in Fort Worth

Four private homes will be decorated for the holidays and open to visitors for A Candlelight Christmas in Ryan Place, the annual holiday home tour in the Fort Worth neighborhood.

The tour takes place Friday, Dec. 1 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2 from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Sunday, Dec. 3 from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. A bus will run between the homes to make the tour easier, and horse-drawn-carriage rides will be available for an additional price. The neighborhood will be decorated in white lights, with strolling carolers, hot cider carts and a craft fair at St. John’s Episcopal Church is also planned.

“‘Fair Park in Lights’ tree lighting event will include entertainment, displays and more

“Fair Park in Lights A Tree Lighting Celebration” will take place at Fair Park on Sunday, Dec. 3 from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., with the official tree lighting ceremony at 6:30 p.m. The park will feature 11 brightly-lit trees, ranging from 15 feet to 35 feet tall, on the esplanade.

The evening will include entertainment, activities for children including photos with Santa, holiday treats, hayrides and more. The holiday light display will continue through New Year’s Day. Admission is free.

Promise MCC announces schedule for Christmas Eve worship services

Promise Metropolitan Community Church will hold services at 10:30 a.m. and at 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve, church officials have announced.

Holy Communion will be offered at both services, and the evening gathering will be a candlelight service. Promise MCC, the oldest MCC in Dallas which will soon celebrate its 10th anniversary, is located at 2527 W. Colorado Blvd.
