New associate pastor to speak Sunday at Cathedral of Hope
Dawson B. Taylor, a recent graduate of Perkins School of Theology at Southern Methodist University will preach on the topic “God is Still Speaking About Grace” at the Cathedral of Hope’s 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. services on Sunday.
Taylor will join the Cathedral’s staff on June 5 as associated pastor for ministry programs.
Taylor spent the last two years at First United Methodist Church Richardson where he began and served as primary preacher for a weekly contemporary worship service. One of his duties at Cathedral of Hope will be serving as primary preacher for the Wednesday night Bible study.
Taylor said he is excited at the opportunity to serve at Cathedral of Hope, which he called “a very special place where lives are changed and our world is made better.”
Celebration on the Lake to hold casino night
The Celebration on the Lake Church will hold a Casino Night on Sat, from 7 p.m. to 11 p.m.
The event includes Blackjack, Craps, Texas Hold-Em and Bingo. The grand prize winner for the evening will receive 25,000 frequent flyer miles.
Admission is a $10 requested donation at the door.
All proceeds will support Celebration on the Lake church’s community service and outreach programs.
Celebration on the Lake Church is located at Cedar Creek Lake on Hwy. 198, just south of Gun Barrel City (in Payne Springs) in the Baywood Plaza Shopping Center.
Operation Kindness offers low-cost pet microchipping
Operation Kindness will offer low-cost microchipping for dogs and cats on Sunday from noon to 4 p.m. at its shelter, located at 3201 Earhart Drive, near Keller Springs and Midway Road in Carrollton.
The cost is $15 per animal, which includes lifetime registration. No appointment is necessary but there may be a wait. All dogs must be on leashes and all cats must be in carriers. The procedure takes about five minutes. For more information call 972-418-PAWS.
Youth First Texas unveils new facility for GLBT youth meetings
Youth First Texas will hold an open house to present its new expanded facility on Wednesday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Executive director Bob Miskinis said there would be a ribbon cutting at 7 p.m. and a short presentation at 8 p.m. “It will be a good opportunity for the community to see what has been happening at Youth First Texas,” Miskinis said.
The group’s facility is located at 5415 Maple Ave., Suite 221.
Kendell, Shepard to speak at June Chamber of Commerce luncheon
Kate Kendell, executive director of the National Center for Lesbian Rights, and Judy Shepard, executive director of the Matthew Shepard Foundation, will be the guest speakers at the June 16 luncheon of the North Texas GLBT Chamber of Commerce.
The luncheon begins with networking from 11:30 a.m. to noon, followed by lunch from noon to 1 p.m. The location for the event will be announced later.
The cost is $25 for members and $30 for non-members.

Lambda Legal to mark 3rd anniversary of Lawrence v. Texas ruling
The Lambda Legal Defense and Education Fund will mark the third anniversary of the U.S. Supreme Court’s landmark ruling in Lawrence v. Texas case, striking down the Texas sodomy law, with a special event on June 24 at the Dallas Center for Contemporary Arts.
The event will be held from 6:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. and will include cocktails, appetizers and live jazz music by The Lauren Gifford Trio.
