TCU studies senior lesbians and gays in long-term care
Faculty in the Harris College of Nursing and Health Sciences at Texas Christian University are working on a study of older lesbians and gays in long-term care. They are interviewing these residents about their experiences involving homophobia and heterosexism.

The researchers so far have found general issues faced by older lesbian and gay men include how to manage identity disclosure in potentially hostile environments without retreating to the closet.

The goal is to develop, implement and evaluate interventions to ease the transition to long-term care and mitigate its negative effects on older lesbians and gay men.
Any senior citizen who is gay or lesbian and living in a long-term care facility and interested in participating in the study, please contact Dee Casper at d.casper@tcu.edu or 817-257-7469.

Stonewall Democrats elect officers to 2nd term, prepare for primaries
Stonewall Democrats of Dallas voted Tuesday night, Nov. 17, to re-elect its full slate of officers to another term.

The vote came during the organization’s general monthly meeting, and about 120 people attended.

Officers are President Erin Moore, Vice President Jay Narey, Secretary Kenneth Denson and Treasurer Mike McCue. None of the races were contested.

Also at the meeting, Stonewall’s Political Director Kaye Gooch spoke to the numerous Democratic political candidates in attendance about the endorsement screening process that will take place in January, after the filing deadline to appear on the ballot in next March’s primary.

Any Stonewall Dallas member in good standing, who has paid their dues current by Dec. 14, may join the Endorsement Screening Committee.

The committee will then vote on which endorsement to recommend and present those recommendations to the general membership for approval at the January general meeting.

Stonewall members at Tuesday’s meeting also voted on new bylaws prepared earlier this year by a committee formed to update the existing bylaws for the growing organization.
