Resource Center kicks off Healthy Living Series for LGBT people
Resource Center Dallas kicks off the 2010 Healthy Living Series Monday, Jan. 25, covering general wellness and health-related issues faced by the LGBT community.
Henry Ramirez III, center programs manager, said the five-session series will include "everything from making better food choices and diabetes to hypertension, weight loss, and physical activity for a healthier body."
All sessions of the series will be held on Mondays, from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. At the first session, participants will assess their health. The Feb. 8 session will look at general health, highlighting issues surrounding weight loss; the Feb. 22 session will highlight diabetes, and the March 8 session will highlight hypertension. The final session, March 22, will focus on healthy cooking for singles and families. In addition, attendees will have access to a variety of low-cost "perks," Ramirez said, including "low-cost outings and interactive experiences to help participants take what they’ve learned in the series and put it into practical use."
The "perks" currently scheduled include a smoking cessation class and a self-defense skills seminar, and others may be added.

Lill to speak to GAIN about new Arts District Project
Resource Center Dallas’ GAIN (GLBT + Aging Interest Network) will have a social get-together and program Wednesday, Jan. 20 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Texas Land and Cattle Company restaurant, 3130 Lemmon Ave.
Veletta Forsythe Lill, executive director of the Arts District, will conduct a presentation on the Arts District Project. The 19-block Arts District on the northeast corner of downtown Dallas is home to the Wyly Theatre, the Winspear Opera House and the Meyerson Symphony Center, and serves as the home for more than two dozen arts organizations.
There will be hors d’oeuvres and a cash bar, as well as a drawing for a dinner for two at the Texas Land and Cattle Company.
