Liz Mikel, who is currently readying for her role in the original musical Give It Up at Dallas Theater Center, escaped with her life (and that of her daughter) early his morning when a fire swept through her apartment complex at Greenville Avenue and Walnut Hill Road.
Mikel, a popular actress and cabaret singer familiar to the gay community, reportedly lost virtually all her material possessions in the blaze. Plans are currently underway to hold a benefit on Saturday night.

In the early hours of this morning, our own Liz Mikel was incredibly unfortunate to have her home burn to the ground. At this time we do not know specific details regarding the fire itself, but what is infinitely more important is that she and her daughter were able to get out safely and physically unharmed. The other side to it, however, is that they have lost everything in the fire and were only able to save the clothes on their backs.
Now the question is: how do we as a family rally together and help?

As Liz’s immediate needs involve housing, clothing, and food we are asking that you either go to your closest Target or SuperTarget and buy a gift card in any dollar amount; which will be given to Liz. I will be the point of contact for this effort and will be happy to collect gift cards in person, they can be put in an envelope in my mailbox on the 8th floor of the Wyly, or they can be mailed to: Liz Mikel c/o Dallas Theater Center 2400 Flora Street, Dallas, TX 75201.
