Participants in AIDS Arm’s annual 5K LifeWalk raised a record total of $512,125 for the event this year, organizers announced Wednesday night at a wrap-up party at the Hilton Anatole.
Over the course of eight months leading up to the October event, 145 teams planned more than 100 events for fundraising.
“We are so proud of our volunteers, sponsors, and walkers this year who participated in achieving this milestone,” Dr. John Carlo, AIDS Arms CEO, said in a statement. “LifeWalk remains an important reminder for our community that HIV and AIDS has not gone away. Raised funds support life-saving HIV medical care for many who would otherwise not have the ability to receive care.”
Co-chair Kelly Green said the record amount spoke to the dedication of walkers, volunteers and staff who helped accomplish the goal.
“The dedication to this event is heartwarming, and we deeply appreciate the community’s support,” Green said.
The Dallas Voice Elizabeth Trail’rs placed first in the small business category with more than $5,000 raised. John Gordon was the top individual fundraiser with more than $12,000. He’s been the top individual fundraiser the past two years.
LifeWalk team Guys & Dolls raised a new record of $86,509 this year — 17 percent of the total amount raised — bringing their total raised over 17 years to $682,000.
Other top fundraising teams included: M.A.C. Cosmetics: $28,980; Green Team: $28,002; jcpCares: $23,647; Avita Drugs Pharmacy: $18,435; Team Metro (GDMAF): $18,049; HMS Helps: $17,910; Team HEART: $15,173; Sugarstix: $10,728; and Team Clover: $9,616.
Partner organizations that benefited from LifeWalk 2013 were AIDS Interfaith Network, AIDS Services of Dallas, Greg Dollgener Memorial AIDS Fund, Legal Hospice of Texas, Resource Center, Turtle Creek Chorale, The Women’s Chorus of Dallas and UT Southwestern Community Intervention and Prevention Unit.
