In the upcoming May 3 election, eight LGBTQ candidates that have been endorsed by Victory Fund are running for election.

Locally, Chad West is up for re-election to Dallas city council. He has two opponents. During his term in office, he has served as mayor pro tem. West serves as District 1 city councilman, which is primarily in North Oak Cliff.

District 6 Dallas City Councilman Omar Narvaez is prevented from running for re-election because of term limits.

Two other local candidates are running for office — Omar Roman is running for re-election to the Farmers Branch City Council and Ileana Garza-Rojas is running for re-election to the Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD Board of Trustees. Roman currently is serving as Farmers Branch’s mayor pro tem.

Elsewhere around the state, Gina Ortiz Jones, who had previously run for Congress, is now running for mayor of San Antonio. She would become that city’s first lesbian mayor. Jalen McKee-Rodriguez is running for San Antonio’s city council.

Roy De los Santos is a candidate for the Brownsville city commission. Elias Diaz is up for a seat on the Eagle Pass city council. Salvador Serrano is running for San Jacnto College board of trustees.

Early voting for the May 3 election is April 22-29.
