All-time low
The Voice stooped to an all time low [in the Dec. 5 issue] with the article about the Grindr scammer (“Grindr scammer targeting Dallas gay men”).
Really, this is just a gossip column. When someone loans someone money, regardless of the sob story they hear, it’s a choice they make. The guy who loaned Michael Bellah money chose to do that. He hardly knew the guy, felt sorry for him and then loaned it. It was his choice. Since he didn’t get it back he comes to you and you create a big article about it.
Yes, there were others who listened to the same story and loaned money. Shouldn’t the article really be about the silliness of those people? Shouldn’t we run the articles, post their pictures and call it “Goofballs who loan money to strangers”?
I’m embarrassed to be a part of this community at this point and your paper has just taken the Dallas gay community to an all-time public low. You’ve used your “paper” to embarrass a person, to share some stories that are truly gossip at best. I’m glad there’s no subscription price to the Voice. If there was, I’d cancel my subscription. If I was an advertiser, I’d certainly think twice about continuation.
I hope you take some time to think about what you print. Lets do news, not the latest relationship gone bad, or the latest idiot who loans money to a total stranger they feel sorry for.
